In which I explain why this kid's film about a racecar is actually a propaganda film about Anarchism.
Sorry it's been so long between videos! Getting Pixar to release the copyright claims on this one took ages.

To be fair, this message is great as flavor text, but it obviously didn’t meet its full potential as it’s a story about humility and respect and Doc comes back not for the fame and glory but realizing the true joy is working with someone who you thought could become big and mentoring them as your own.

Omg, those car puns at the end! And, I have to say, given where we're starting from (and the fact this movie has been viewed by millions of impressionable children), "almost" anarchist propaganda is a pretty awesome achievement.

I'm almost more proud of the puns than I am of the video itself lmao. The People's Bayonet here on YT helped me out with those, def check out their stuff too! (Admittedly, their stuff isn't centered around car puns, but it's still quite good)

“Anarchist Catalonia is a great example of functioning anarchy” “Sentencing someone to hard labour is not anarchist” I don’t know if you’re aware, but revolutionary Catalonia had labour camps. Given the fact that they were in a war for survival their imperfections may be excusable, but we have to be careful not to pedestalise or demonise different Socialist communities. We should try to judge them in context and understand the material conditions they functioned in

From what I have read about it there was no forced labour in these camps and you had a lot more freedom there than in an average school or summer camp

Unless I am mistaken, the prison camps were the creation of the Republic, not the Anarchists; the confusion comes from the fact that the camps were organised by the Minister of Justice, who was a member of the CNT-FAI.

Great video. Oh, and if you plan to make another video about leftism in early-2000s childrens' films I've gotta ask, have you seen Robots? It's (almost) really good anti-capitalist propaganda.. but with fart jokes..... that don't even really make sense cuz like where's the gas coming from they're purely electric machines! But it certainly does have anti-capitalist pro-mutual aid revolutionary themes in there under its weird visage.

bro i swear in cars the events of the story were about a motorway causing a town to get less money because people werent driving through it to get between cities; and then mcqueen, who is mega rich and famous, decides to support their businesses by buying stuff and then gets more people to go to the town by living there which makes it a point of interest. how is radiator springs a commune i dont understand?

Though I'm a leftist, I disagree with anarchism for a number of reasons. I still find it good how a movie about talking cars from Disney, specifically a racecar learning humility that I was frankly obsessed with when it first came out and still love today, is able to have some pretty good subliminal leftist messaging.

@blackflagsnroses6013
@blackflagsnroses6013 4 жыл бұрын
Sara Sunflower I wouldn’t say that. The Mutualist and Free Market Anarchist strains are still anti-capitalist and Socialist. They don’t support profit or usury but mutual exchange and reciprocity. And Mutualism shares in Anarcho-collectivist and Market Anarchist ideals by focusing on industrial and agricultural collectivist-cooperatives or worker’s associations exchanging in a marketplace. It too advocates a system where capital does not exploit labor. Free Market Anarchists are all about the open marketplace which included communist communes where any community freely associates as such. I think a libertarian world would have room for all social experimentation to see what works best for each community. Communists neighboring, Collectivists, neighboring Syndicalists, neighboring Mutualists, neighboring Free Market Anarchists etc... Mutualism is an early concept and was the origin point and influence of further developed An-Communism. But that doesn’t make it not Anarchist or incomplete even, as it’s a school in itself. We owe the modern interpretation of the word and political ideology of Anarchism to Proudhon himself. Which is why I value Social and Individualist strains of Anarchism. Shutting down a school is rejecting the contributions of fellow anarchists along the way. And in the end so long as it’s anarchist it will be a social revolutionary experiment in a free anarchist world.

Interesting interpretation of Cars. But, at the end of the day, this movie doesn't [almost] have an anarchist message. It doesn't have one at all for the simple fact that a lot of the kids and adults who watch this movie will think, "Dang, I wanna buy a car as fast and powerful as Lightning McQueen!". Yes, this is a movie with a NASCAR racecar with a cute, smiling face, but it only contributed to consumerism, especially with the billions and billions of dollars of merchandise that it sold. Cars doesn't work as an anarchist movie because the automobile is a consumer product. Thus, this is movie in which humanity has been replaced sentient consumer products. This movie also fails to show the environmental havoc that would result from everyone being turned into a car. Clean air and pristine rivers on a planet where everyone expels toxic exhaust and has tires that come in plastic bags? I don't think so. No one was thinking about the implications of Lightning leaving behind a capitalist society to live in a commune. They were thinking about how nice it would be to go and buy a big, strong 900-HP muscle car like him. There are movies out there with an anarchist message. But, Cars isn't one of them in the slightest.
