I've been using the Canon EOS R6 over the last 8 months for filmmaking as well as photography and I've recently been using the Google Pixel 6a as my daily driver. Today we are going to take a look at how the computational photography of a $350 smartphone stacks up against a $5000 professional mirrorless camera.

Really interesting to see the pixel being compared to a professional camera. The pixel is pretty good considering the insane amount of price difference between the two. Also, your video was really great and you deserve more subs!

I think the pixel 6a potentially has one of the worlds best smartphone cameras, pixels software is fantastic and makes the pixel 6a look very good comparable to most point in shoot. Though i do feel my canon powershot 620hs has more accurate colours than the pixel 6a tho the 6a is way better at night.

Btw the only way to really get that natural look on phones is to use raw mode (often found in manual mode settings). You should try on the iphone 14 pro or pixel 6, it would look more like a DSLR image

honestly this is a really nice video but the reasons you mentioned the canon to be better like better shadow control better colour control, those are available on the pixel 6a too if you use the colour and shadow controls on the camera before taking them. You might argue that you either dont want to do that or that it's too extra but for a similar shot paying 4700 more just to have that seems like a steal. Anyways that's just my opinion, also yeah the portrait mode on the pixel isnt as great, glad to see it improved on the 7 series though!

The pixel has the options to do those things correct but it doesn’t retain the detail in the shadows like the canon. Hence when you bring them up it just looks low quality

"computational photography" Speaking of which Google has removed the manual configuration of exposure metering from the 6a. They say that it isn't necessary to get great shots, CP will do it automatically.

great video man! I recently got my pixel 6a . After clicking the picture it process the photos to HDR which make the picture darker.is there any way to turn off HDR processing.

2 devices I'm interested in compared. I dream of Canon R6 and of Pixel 6a. I want to buy Pixel because of camera. 2 weeks ago I purchased Canon 6D for my night photography. I'm on the very start but amazed how full frame eliminates any boarders of possibilities compared to crop sensors. It is a gap between 6D and Nikon 3200 I tried before. I'm curious to know the night dynamic range difference between 6D and the whole R series. By the way, why have you chosen exactly R6, not just R or R5? What are your thoughts on 20 mpxl ? Much less than on others of the series. Greetings from Ukraine!

I chose the R6 because it has 4K 60fps as I slow down a lot of shots for my tech channel and also the R6 has better autofocus.

Have you tried RAW on the pixel? Side note, it’s more fun to shoot on a real camera. It feels better and more pro. Smartphone has no hope catching up with the camera fun factor.

Ngl raw shots look pretty low quality because most of the good things about the photos are post processing

@@MattRobbPhoto Thanks for such a quick response. I think I didn't ask my question correctly. I meant to say, if I shoot raw then edit in on my desktop with LR, can I get a better look? Especially with the portrait bokeh being pretty poor due to the lack of a tele lens.

Great comparison! The Pixel phones tend to show more light and less shadow and sometimes I prefer that but i have a Pixel 6 and it does better with the 50 megapixel sensor. I have a Sony A6000 so I'll compare my phone sometime.

The Pro camera is better for sure but not 10 times better (like the price), I would say 30% better.

500 dollar camera can beat it if we pair with a decent lens..because of its hdr most people like phone photos..but in real times theres no comparison...the modern day phone brands are slowly increasing the sensor size also apart from ai😂
