This is a review of the Google Pixel 7a. In this review of the Google Pixel 7a, i go over how my experience has been with the Pixel 7a one month later. I specifically go over my pros and cons with the Pixel 7a, compare it to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 pro, and talk about whether or not the Pixel 7a is worth it.

Quick question - Pixel 7 or 7a??

I chose the Pixel 7a to be my first Pixel phone ever. I just prefer smaller phones and the fact that it is made out of plastic doesn't make me be permanently scared that it will shatter into a thousand pieces if I accidently drop it. I also really like the sea blue color you can get for the 7a. I just instantly fell in love with that color, so much in fact that I am using a clear case for the first time instead of some colored one. I am not a heavy phone user, so the battery life isn't a huge problem. Texting, scrolling through Instagram and watching a few hours of KZfaq videos is no problem. The only time where I notice the battery draining is when using the camera app. But I usually take a power bank with me if I know that I'm gonna shoot many videos and photos. So for anyone reading this that are thinking if they should get the 7a or the 7 I think the phone is more for casual users that just like to watch a few hours of KZfaq and stay in contact with friends and family. If you want to play games on your device or you are a heavy phone user with over 8 hours of SOT, you shouldn't get the 7a.

I have then pixel 7 just out of curiosity. I wanted to see how well the pixel 7a held up. I 100% can't tell the difference in anything between the two phones. Photos are amazing on both, I get the same battery life, and the same performance out of both. The a series right now is definitely the way to go for best bang for your buck. Gives you flagship performance for $500

Did you have any issues with the phone getting hot to the touch or overheating, especially when outside or in the car? I have a 6a and it's pretty toasty; I'm wondering if the 2nd-gen Tensor chip runs cooler.

The price of the 7a has dropped to $374 now and I have heard the upgrade to Android 14 fixes some of the problems with battery life and overheating. I think I am ready now to upgrade from my Pixel 3a which has gotten better over time with Googles updates.

374 is a nobrainer for me. what a great value. and yeah...the 2 Things you just mentioned are completely gone when using Android 14. i have seen some complaints in amazon reviews about bad battery life and overheating/the phone getting too warm. luckily i upgraded it to Android 14 right after the unboxing and before i ever really used the phone. i only got mildly warm 2 times within 3-4 weeks of use and when it comes to screen on time it really gets bizarre as it is the longest lasting battery for me since i started using smartphones and it just gets better and better over time. 9-10 hours Screen on time is no problem...the longest was straight 12h from completely full to 1%...on a 4385mAh cell...its so insanely good i still cant wrap my head around it for anyone interested the phones i owned over the years: i started with the Samsung Galaxy S2 back in 2011, went for Note 1 and 2, Galaxy S7, did something stupid like using an iPhone 5s and 6s, got back to Android using the Huawei P20 Pro (what a great phone that was back in the days, then i tried Xiaomi Poco x3 Pro (over 5000mAh) and because of the great visual, audio and gaming performance+ the 2 extra shoulder buttons to aiming/shooting while playing First Person Shooters i bought a F4GT (4700mAh) But after i bought a Steam Deck for Handheld Gaming the F4GT became obsolete and since i truly missed having a decent camera in my pocket 24/7 i went out to try the pixel experience i heard sooo many good things about ... and oh boy...i really underestimated the 7a...almost the perfect phone imho. reverse wireless charging and overall faster charging would be great but thats about it. for anything under 420 giggedy bucks its simply a phone i'd consider it be close to perfection😂❤

I'm thinking of getting the 7a because of some improvements over the 6a which I had few months ago. But I'm still concerned about the battery life. With doing some battery saving tips known out there can I get at least 5 hours SOT and will it last well up to 12 midnight in standard use? That's the million dollar question.

It still has jitter when scrolling, despite the 90Hz refresh rate.

Believe it or not...9 to 10 hours easily doable...12hours was my alltime best. 2h20m in right now and 89% just using YT Premium watching content writing comments

It is over priced at $499. I got 4 for free from Google Fi, so I am not complaining.

Rumours that this might be the last a series since its "so close to the 7". In other words Google slowly increased the price of the a series, maintain the price of the main series, kill it and sell the 7 or next series at about that price. Basically selling only flagship products. I hope that rumour isn't true, cause it would be dumb for Google to introduce the a series again after that strategy fail.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a Pixel 6a. Pictures are so much better with my Pixel 6a. Video is pretty solid on Pixel now. iPhone is still better but just a little bit. Also I prefer the colours on videos from Pixel 6a than the iPhone.

Video is always better on iphones. But 1000s of reviews after I’ve convinced that tensor G2 is overheating.

Not had any heating issues with my 7a. Had it since launch day. Battery has improved drastically after the first couple weeks as well.

Hard to say this early, pixels need to be assessed over time, they historically start showing issues after six months or so, hopefully this one doesn’t!

7a will be value king after price will drop close to 300. 499 is too much. A54 499 was clearly too much 450 too much but 350 fuck yeah now we are talking. Right now A54 is value king but 7a will take that place sooner or later. 7a and A54 both have security updates 5 years that is good. 7a will get 3 new android versions A54 will get 4 what works nice whit 5 year security support. Like to see someone to take apple and hit that 7 year update promise in android side. More and more people are using there phones longer. Not many can drop that over 1k to phone every year and stick old phone to drawer.

Use it and let it install the upgrades. From what I have read the Google upgrades and the update to Android 14 pretty much eliminate overheating and battery problems. Plus they learn your usage habits and adjust accordingly. From other posts I read they say it gets much better after a couple of weeks of use.

My 6a display appears brighter than the 7a, the 7 and 7a displays have a dingy dark yellow tint very noticeable on whites i dont like it.

Samsung S21FE is still better value. 7a’s stabilization is utter crap on the main and ultrawide. Distortion everywhere too

Nothing Phone 1 is a better device in this range. Opinion. I bought Nothing P1 instead of Pixel and I'm satisfied. Value for money.

@@JSLReview Great! And yeah, this device is amazing. Phone 2 is coming on the 29th. I love their branding, accessories, the software, and the hardware. In this price segment, it's unbeatable. Phone 2 is supposed to be a flagship. So would probably be expensive. The camera is okay, I don't use it much so it doesn't affect me. Camera is no doubt better on the pixel for obvious reasons.

It's not always about the rrp prices of buying it outright. You can't get a Nothing Phone on contract here really, which is the only way I would get a phone. And the deal I got with my Pixel 7a was that I got the phone for £385 (which is over £100 off the retail price, and less than a Nothing Phone which I can't even get this way anyway). Plus some people look for certain use cases. Those who want an exceptionally good camera phone at this price point are not going to find the Nothing Phone to be better value for money, it's just not good enough there. It does match Googles Android updates at least, but comes with 1 year less of security updates for long term usage so there's that to consider in the price as well. It looks like a great phone generally, but for me it's a really bad choice compared to a the Pixel 7a I got for various reasons.

@@wyterabitt2149 I already mentioned the cameras and of course I was talking about regions it is available in. Pixel was my first choice for Android before Nothing launched here. So yeah I agree with most of your points. And Phone 2 is coming to more regions so that is good.
