It's #WorldPorcupineDay, and we are here to bust a prickly myth with help from Pixy Stix, our very own Cape por-cute-pine with a case of the #Zoomies:
🏹 Do porcupines shoot their quills?
Nope! #Porcupine quills are modified hairs, which they can raise and rattle to look larger. This display is all done using a larger version of the same muscles that respond to “hair-raising” situations in humans. Porcupines can also spin around and rush backwards to stab with their thicker, shorter quills if needed.
