I see many people saying the Zoya arc was not needed But I think it's the most important thread actually coz till that point Even though Ranbir was killing people the audience still connected with him and saw him as an anti hero till the first half coz he is such a dutiful son, a supportive brother, a loyal husband, feerless, alpha, man of his word, masculine etc But the moment he cheated on Rashmika it's the audience that feels cheated and it breaks the entire alpha, loyal, man of his word character of his and he truly becomes an animal, who's filled with rage, lust and doesn't care what's wrong or right, the entire 2nd half is sandeep trying to make the audience get disgusted with Ranbir and doesn't allow the audience to worship him as a Hero😊

could have done a better job at that tho. Like This entire sub plot could have been reduced with just one convo. Furthermore both sides didn't make sense.Like did Zoya really think that Vijay won't meet his family again? or what was the need for Vijay to do the entire romance plot if he already knew the truth about Zoya and could have just forced her to say the truth? The problem is not the sub plot itself but rather the usefulness of that sub plot

Agreed, I think that's a good point. Though he could have forced her to tell the truth, like tortured or something he chose to cheat. And he faced the consequences in the end. I don't get the criticism.

That's the point. The man has gone ahead and portrayed him as an alpha man - he has brought a gun to a college, opened fire, stole someone else's fiancee etc etc etc He never had a moral compass. The audience just thought he was a loyal son, protective brother blah blah, to see him in a good boy light. He did what he was meant to do. He had a negative shade from the begining. I do not think, there was anything to be disappointed at this cheating pov. Yes it was let down for a 2 second time period until Rashmika comes to know of it. Loved the movie 🎥

One observation I realised is that the movie is very evidently divided into two halves. The first half is the adrenaline rush one gets of being animalistic, the rush you feel when you take actions without taking any kind of morals into consideration. He goes and kills people, the first person he actually kills is his sister's husband and you can see he starts huffing and breathing heavily after chocking him, displaying the aftermath of actually killing someone. Because of this small detail, killing someone doesn't just feel like two words and the reality of the action is visible in Ranbir's reaction. The rush is real in the first half, and the 'anti - hero' is who we support. But as the second half starts, the character starts facing the consequences of being animalistic. He goes mad, cheats, gets angry, is naked and everything is justified in his head because morals dont exist in this mind. But now, he faces the consequences of being crazy. Dad is dying, wife leaves him, he lost everything. To be honest, he loses the audience from his side too. The second half coverts the character from a protagonist to an antagonist because of his animalistic actions, which I feel was Vanga's way of saying this is what will happen if you go down this road. Bobby is animalistic too, and very evidently when we see him killing someone so brutally at his wedding we in our mind establish him as 'the villain' but in reality, no one is a hero in this story. Whatever anyone will think of this film being good or bad is very individualistic, but this fact is what I left the movie with and I feel you need guts to make a story like this, in today's time.

It requires a level of maturity. This movie has everything - good story, good acting skills, good everything. Moral of the story is - Even by all violent means, he does not get what he wants in the end. The title of the movie is Animal! I do not know who is expecting the character to be morally right.

When I went to the theatre for Animal, women were equally shouting and cheering as men were, for scenes that are normally called out as "red flags". Regarding Tripti Dimri's character, I found it to be perfect. Because her relevance will grow a lot in the sequel. I am 100% sure that there would be some sequence in the second part where she will be morally ambiguous between Ranbir and the other Ranbir (Abrar's brother who got plastic surgery). So the way Vanga set her up in Animal was brilliant. She's completely head over heels for Ranbir and that would dictate her moves and choices between both the Ranbirs. I don't care who says what, but Animal is a heavily character driven movie that has no bounds. 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️

The way I was judged for actually putting a positive post on the movie , I being a woman, a mother wasn't supposed to love it but call it out for it's misogyny, no I didn't feel it that way because I don't go watch a movie for social service or carrying a moral compass , I go to get entertained , issee zyada violence I have seen in many English series like Walking dead , in which two main protagonists were literally smashed by Negan , it was so graphic that I couldn't eat my meal that day , so for me I purely watched the movie thinking that the protagonist is a problematic guy with major mental health issues .. hence his behaviour. How can u expect a psychopath to be rational ? Plus ppl went on to character analyse Vanga for his movies , arey bhai differentiate art from artist , jus because a guy makes a Dexter or Hannibal or John wick doesn't mean Director gets inspired from his own life , it's how he visualises his script . Indian audience have evolved over the years but critics don't want them too, I am happy that Vanga is able to break these barriers and notions and take the cinema way ahead from the template .

Sorry to disagree but the character is being hated upon because of his lack of remorse for his actions! Even Gangs of Wasseypur had 100 times more violence than Animal but in Gangs of Wasseypur the message was very clear- violence will not lead to anything good! But in Animal nothing Ranvijay did all that he did without any consequences whatsoever. He craved for his father's love and to prove to his father that he is the best son he justifies his actions. But for a moment think about this- Vijay was also not a good father either as he barely spent time with his kids and he literally tried to shoot his wife in front of his kids. Even in the end there is no redemption shown as Vijay's son returns to him. The only issue I had with the character is that he has no self- realisation.

Thats the thing. Director deliberately took everything away from you to let you sympathies with the character. I liked that bit. It left no room for romanticisation of his character. It only showed him as pure animal who acts out of impulse and instincts rather than intellect. His obsession with his father degraded his personality completely. He himself promised her that he will never betray her and he did. The first half of this movie shows him as a protector. The second half show him as an abuser. In the first half he asks his sister to stand up for herself and fight for herself. In the second half. He is the one who broke his own promoses and character trait in his blind obsession with father. Cheating part was the peak. It made people uncomfortable and gave people no room to empathize with him. Its a good choice by director. He focused on the abusive traits in second half.

I think the only main issue was some of the scenes were unnecessary ans didn't add anything to the storyline. Like their plane almost crashing into the mountain, and then talking about doing it on the airstrip. Pretty sure there were a few more like these. These could've been removed entirely and made space for more screen time for Bobby. Probably could've just shown us 5 mins of his childhood.

Gangs of wasseypur actual had more violence. Faizal literally beheads a guy with a knife. The problem with animal wasnt that it was violent, the problem is that wasnt violent enough. The reviewers like this guys hyped it up so much saying "its very triggering" and "itni violent film india me aaj tak bani nhi hogi" that the film felt flat. Atleast it was better than jawan and pathan so thats good.

Fair Warning...Really long comment here! While I also really liked the movie as a viewing experience, the plot did not resonate with me as much as I wanted it to. It just seemed too shallow for me to get invested in what these characters were fighting for, despite the stellar performances from everyone! Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor) literally does not feel like a character to me, he's just a plot device... Maybe this is by choice since he's an absent father but I can't seem to grasp the drama of the whole father son dynamic because of this... Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, I would really like it if someone had some thoughts about this... To me it feels like Vanga wanted to create a Walter White-esque character but simply did not want to muddy up the motivations of the protagonist in nuance, which leads to a seemingly one dimensional character. You can argue that it's up to the viewer in how much they want to read into the subtext, but I genuinely don't know if there's even any intention for introspection here, I don't know what Vanga truly believes in while conveying this story. Another major point of contention for me was the ending... I would have really liked if the movie stuck with giving the most depressing ending to the protagonist, with his wife and kids leaving him and him crying on the stairs. That at least cements some form of accountability for the character's actions. But the last scene of his son or daughter (I can't remember) running back to him saying Papa Papa leaves a weird taste in my mouth, implying in the end, despite being a psychotic 'Animal', he still gets a second chance to be a good father... I don't know if this ending's too ballsy or cowardly... TLDR; While Animal will definitely be a landmark movie in the coming years in terms of presentation and acting, it still needed more substance to be considered 'a good film'. Comparing Vanga to Tarantino or Coppola is really just an insult to the later director's name, in my opinion. But if he can take criticism like this without being butthurt, I think he can be a much better storyteller in the future. But what do I know?

There may be many layers to a man’s character and that’s what Vanga Reddy has tried portraying through Ranbir’s role. Ranbir’s range of emotions have been shown based on various situations he is under. He is shown protecting his sister, father and family, confessing cheating on his wife as part of plan which he could have kept a secret, violent shade being brought to the fore numerous times, romantic side, forgiving Zoya etc. It is shocking to know that most people are only talking about Ranbir’s misogynistic conduct in the movie whereas there were several shades to his character. The bottom line is that Vanga Reddy has served the Indian audience with something different…whether good or bad remains a matter of personal preference and choice.

He is probably afraid that his wife would leave him, so he is pleading his case with her, without realizing that he is actually making it worse … it’s only after his son calls him a hero he takes himself seriously…. It is a great character arc… it’s masterpiece to explore the psychology of a fallen hero… geeta characterization is even better, she understands that her husband is going through some depression, and supports him…

AND VAnga also missed opportunity to give more screen time to bobby and add more value to story. 2nd half it felt like vanga showing some random stuff which has got nothing to do with story just vulger and unnecessary. VANGA has ruined it in the 2nd half with his sick. Ind with this random studf added which was totally unrelated to story and just lengthen the run time and slowed the movie down. Instead he could have use bobby to show how he made plan to send tripti to india and found heart doner and all that. Also it was not shown or explained in the movie that how does ranvir found out tripti is sent by bobby. And also why would tripti will tell ranvir full plan about what bobby was trying to do and later she went back to them, its just doesn't make sense. Just watched the movie and I just can't believe how much some reviewers are bashing this movie for no reason. I absolutely loved it. Left me sublime, emotional and speechless at the end. It doesn't justify ANYTHING from Ranvijay's character and all of his negative actions have some ramifications or consequences. Geetanjali's brilliant monologue and her slapping him so hard multiple times just made it absolutely perfect.
