Here is a Tip. I did not have a Female E 11mm Torx socket set. I did not want to buy a whole set for the sake of one nut. However found a cheap solution. All you need to a set of pliers, all I did was just grabbed the nut and turned it, came loose in seconds. Once loose, use your fingers to un-tighten more and then install the 'U' earth ground wire. Then use the pliers to tighten again.

As Ron Manser also posted here 7 months ago there is importantly a right way and a wrong way to insert the fuse tap into the fusebox socket..It must be inserted into the live end section of the fuse box slot you are inserting the fuse tap into..use your probe to find the live side terminal of the empty fuse slot and make sure the fuse tap points the correct way up..

Correct,just insert exactly as shown in the video for it to be the right way around.

I used the left hand side because I run my camera 24/7. Everything from bumps to keying has happened while my car was parked. Although having the connector upside down means there's basically no fuse for the camera because it won't fit in otherwise. Having said THAT, it's a 1 amp camera and the smallest fuse I would get was 3 amps anyway, so either something in the hardwire kit or the camera will fail before the car catches fire.

I do know that cameras do have an on/off button on the unit itself so wouldn't it need a permanent live supply to retain it's correct time and date?

Thanks for the video, really helpful! Much appreaciated! Three questions: 1. At around 5:43, you measure the voltage with the red probe. Where is the black probe connected to? Is it connected to ground (any metal surface (no paint) of the car?) 2. I am planning to use my dash cam in parking mode and am required to use one of the fuses on the left. Which one should I use? I was thinking about fuse number 5 from the top (yellow fuse) which according to the manual is the Windscreen Washer System, so that in case the fuse tap accidentally disconnects nothing vital in the car shuts down? Would that be ok? 3. Have you ever used the top connections/fuses (Number 1 and 8 in the manual)? They are listed as blank in the manual, does current even passes through them? I was thinking I might use these two and avoid interfering with the car's electronics. Cheers

Hi, I have a 2015 vauxhall Corsa SE, i have an area in the center of the screen at the top, where a manufactures camera etc that recognizes speed signs, this area has a covering, would i be able to put a very small camera in there and somehow connect it up to the intel system in the car. If this is not possible, what about the speckled area of the glass, as camera would need a clear sight. What camera would you suggest as i want a front and rear facing one, also have reversing camera that view comes from intel system. I guess the camera would need to be fitted on nearside of car, sorry its so long, many thanks Barry.

Hi great video. It's made me feel I can do the install myself. One thing I'd like to know before I do is, I'm wanting to use the parking mode on my Nextbase 612. So with that in mind it will need power when the ignition is off. Which fuse do I look for in order to choose the correct one. On a 2016 Corsa EcoFlex. Kind Regards.
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
On that year most of the left hand side fuses are constant live but you will need to test them and check against the owners manual for which one to use. You don't want to use anything to do with Airbags,abs,engine management,or fuel system. Bare in mind that the 612 has battery back up but this only last a few hours so if your leaving the car for days constant power will be required and the camera 'should' detect if it's dropping the car battery to low.
@stefanjefferson73
@stefanjefferson73 6 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh I see. Every review I've seen says you have to hard wire it to use parking mode. So am I correct in thinking if it has a back up battery that it it will be fine as is if only left for a few hrs?

I’ve got a Vauxhall Combo C and I’m trying to replace the factory radio. All I have left to do is wire up the power cable to my fuse box but fuse box is under the hood and there is no internal one. Also no spare connection behind my cigarette socket. Any ideas?
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
On a Combo C I would route a fused supply from the under bonnet fuse box,however if this is something you don't want to tackle then maybe use the power feed to the heater switch panel as this is only live when the ignition is on. To do this you need to test it with a meter but most have a thick red wire on a long slim five cable plug that is the switched one.

How will I hard wire dash cam,with parking mode in Astra H 2006 as fuse box is in the rear inside boot.
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 5 жыл бұрын
Your best to run a fused power cable the length of the car to the fusebox. Or I guess if your looking for a quick bodge you could splice in to the thick red power cable that goes to the rear of the heater control panel. To remove the panel simple take the radio out and notice two metal clips holding the heater control panel in. Lift the clips slightly to release the panel at the top and slid forwards to remove. You should see two wiring connectors and you want the one on the right with the thick red cable in it. If you decide to go this route at least fuse it but tbh doing it correctly to the fusebox would be a better idea.

Is there an always live fuse to tap into ? For dash cams with parking guard?
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the camera,most cams have battery back up and parking mode only records when either a bump or motion is sensed and so main power from the car is not needed. If you need a constant powered fuse it will be a case of checking to see what other accessory fuse is powered even when ignition is off.

The company I work with has Autodata manuals that list fuse locations and wiring loom layouts so I can check to see what fuse is for what circuit,as for how to tell if the fuse is a 3amp,5amp or whatever it is stamped on to the plastic part of the fuse.The common probe can be earthed on many things such as black radio earth cable,outside section of the aerial or even an exposed none painted bold behind the dash.

@PJsprojects

Your original radio 20amp should be a constant live supply so you will need to find a switched live in the fuse box and use a 10amp fuse for the new radio. A lot of people just take a power feed from the 12v socket power cable because that is normally a switched power cable.

how hard would this be to do on a mercedes c220 coupe? 2014
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
Although a lot of Mercedes cars have a small fuse box near the end of the dash most of the time these are not ignition switched and so you would need to use the rear fuse box and run a power cable the length of the car,other than that the principle is pretty much the same.

Very helpful video, thanks. I have a question, my aftermarket dab is getting interference even tho I have used the filter. I know nothing about electrics, would adding another filter make any difference at all?
@PJsprojects

Sadly this is pretty common and adding another filter won't help.

Might this be applied to a SatNav as well..?
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
Yes very much so,some sat navs with built in traffic updates require the original power cable to be used and so you would need this type of thing - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V15A-FEMALE-CIGAR-LIGHTER-SOCKET-PIGGY-BACK-MINI-BLADE-FUSE-HARD-WIRE-GIFT/202186371768?epid=927202983&hash=item2f133f32b8:g:rgUAAOSwEWdZzjRe

hi. great video. one question, if i have a spare fuse location in fuse box, could i use that as long as it powers when ignition is on? or doi have to use one where there already is a fuse? cheers
@PJsprojects
@PJsprojects 6 жыл бұрын
If the spare slot has both inserts showing metal then you could end up bridging a circuit that is meant for a high spec model and so could either throw a fault code or a warning light on the dashboard. However if the spare fuse slot only has one out of the two inserts with metal and is a switched circuit you should be fine to use it. Just make 100% sure it's either spare or a unused accessory fuse slot.

Use a 2amp,most cams are only 300ma so no need for any higher.

ok - ive now got a fuse spur with a 10A mini blade fuse in - but was wondering if i can just plug it into a blank socket on the fuse board - instead of removing an existing fuse. would that work???
@PJsprojects

Best to use one already in use,reason is the ecu might try and read another electrical item that the car is not fitted with.
