Mark Lanegan and Barret Martin belong in the pantheon of all time great singer/drummer respectively. The Conner brothers belong in the pantheon of all-time great songwriters. And Josh from kyuss aint too bad either. It didn't seem so at the time, but jesus christ the world was so much simpler and easier then. What a time it was to be alive..and one of the best bands ever. One of the last true "rock bands" imo. RIP Mark and Van. My personal life and the world at large are better because these guys played music together. Thank you

Read Marks book and it'll shed a lot of dark light on what was going down during this period of time. It'll also pretty much put an end to any of the hopeful reunion comments. I'm glad I saw them twice and have luckily seen Lanegan a dozen times...and QOTSA....of course

also read his book, and it's just crazy that he's alive. I felt it was even darker than Trainspotting (which of course is a work of fiction, Mark's is the real deal) . You can even see how his health declined from here to the Rockpalast show a few months after this. no idea how he made it out of 96-98 alive.

I was at this show back in '96. First Ave. Minneapolis. This is very cool to see this again. One of my favorite live performances. At the 29:01 mark, some dumb ass in the crowd says something like "Play something alive"!! I looked over at him and was like wtf? Then Mark says "Start your own band and play live, if this ain't live then get the fuck out, plenty of life left in this body". Seemed to energize Mark. It's true about the Morrison thing, he does have that energy and presence on stage like Morrison had.Great show! Thanks for posting this!!

he was pretty lifeless at the start of this show.kind of painful to see and hear. shadow of the season - not having any fun. for folks who saw amazing trees shows between 88 and 90 it's sad to see how badly drugs had torn him apart. not fun at all. at least he survived. unlikely. rest of the band is on it at this show. eventually mark gets warmed up.

I've always loved the Screaming Trees but I just realized just now that it's because of his voice I don't think I would like them that much if it wasn't for him... did you know that I saw them a concert when I was in 7th grade with Matthew Sweet and cracker it was a big free outdoor concert and I got stoned as s*** before I went in and it was one of the best times I've ever had in my life because it was the last memory I've ever had of not caring whatsoever but what anybody thought about me because I was too young to know that it mattered... here's what's so cool about it just recently I got old enough to realize it never mattered.. good night

In the late nineties, I heard on the radio that a band called "the trees" were coming to a club near where I live, and that you could meet the band. I thought maybe it was the screaming trees but not sure. On Marks first solo album there is a line that says something like "wrap you arms around me, I'm numb as light as anything". In the state that I was in, I would have tried to hug him, and probably cried on his shoulder. I thought he wouldn't like that. So I did not go.

This audio is lacking...its funny. In Germany after this and many drugs Mark has a stellar performance. As one mentioned in these comments, the book sheds some light on dark stuff with him. I almost feel sorry for him watching that Rocpalast show lol.

No, Josh Homme was a friend and was just brought onboard as a rhythm guitarist for this tour, to flesh out the sound.

Mark liked to wear all black which is cool but too trendy. Seems like most bands today wear all black. It's like they're mourning for someone. I thought he looked cooler when he wore more colors. I think the girls probably liked him more too.
