Saddle placement in driving is just as important as it is in riding. People tend to want to put the saddle too far forward, towards the withers and in some cases right ON the withers, when driving... and when riding.
--Why is it so important to move the saddle back?
If the saddle is too far forward, towards the withers, then when the horse moves forward, swinging through the shoulder, the back of the shoulder can hit the front of the saddle. When this happens it's very uncomfortable leading to the horse shortening it's stride to avoid the pain. **This happens when driving and when riding.
Moving that saddle back to the flat part of the back will eliminate this issue.
If you have a horse or pony with a large belly and a defined girth groove then the type of girth you use will be very important. Chimacum Tack has elastic girths chimacumtack.c... which will slide around less than the padded and lined standard girth.
