Hampi, Vijayanagar Empire taking us back to the 7th century.. It also has the link with Ramayan as it's also close to Kishkinda. The monkey kingdom of Hanuman and Sugreeva.
Hampi is charismatic even in its ruined state, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Vast stretches of boulders, lush green fields, numerous birds, hundreds of monuments, enthusiastic tourists, artists, beautiful sunset and a story at every corner of the town...
Hampi is a backpacker's paradise, the same way a pilgrim's delight.
Have heard people mentioning Hampi as an Empire in ruins.. But for me personally Hampi is a beautiful experience just as its beautiful sunset and as pure as the river that flows across..
Do visit but respect such monuments.. Be a responsible traveller !!
Here's Hampi for you from my lens...
1. Virupaksha Temple: This is the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi and the most sacred. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the oldest functioning temples in India.
2. Vittala Temple: Famous for its iconic Stone Chariot, the Vittala Temple is a masterpiece of Vijayanagara architecture. The musical pillars in the Ranga Mandapa are a unique attraction.
3. Hemakuta Hill Temple Complex: A cluster of temples and monuments on Hemakuta Hill, offering panoramic views of Hampi. It's a great place to watch the sunrise or sunset.
4. Achyutaraya Temple: Also known as Tiruvengalanatha Temple, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is known for its impressive architecture and carvings.
5. Royal Enclosure: The Royal Enclosure houses various structures like the Mahanavami Dibba (platform), Stepped Tank, and the underground chamber.
6. Hazara Rama Temple: This temple is known for its intricate bas-reliefs depicting scenes from the Ramayana. The name "Hazara Rama" means a thousand Rama, indicating the numerous depictions of Lord Rama on the temple walls.
7. Queen's Bath: A large bathing complex believed to have been used by the royal family. The architectural beauty lies in its Indo-Islamic style.
8. Lotus Mahal: This elegant structure is a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles. It is believed to have been used as a recreational palace for the royal women.
9. Elephant Stables: A row of large chambers used to house the royal elephants. The architecture reflects a blend of Indo-Islamic style.
10. Matanga Hill: A great spot for sunrise or sunset views overlooking the Hampi landscape. The hike to the top is rewarding.
11. Sanapur Lake: A serene lake near Hampi where you can relax, take a coracle ride, or enjoy the view.
12. Archaeological Museum: Located in Kamalapur, this museum houses artifacts and sculptures from the ruins of Hampi, providing insights into the history of the Vijayanagara Empire.
These are just a few highlights, and there are many more smaller temples, monuments, and ruins scattered throughout Hampi, making it a paradise for history and architecture enthusiasts.
