Sherill Milnes should’ve played the role of the Phantom in POTO, his voice was perfect for the role

The best Tosca I have seen on KZfaq was with these two plus a wonderful soprano whose name begins with a K. I just can't remember, I am sorry to say. Milnes's Scarpia was not just menacing and evil but also attractive and almost compassionate. Domingo's Mario Cavaradossi stood up to Scarpia and sang with blood and fire. The soprano was a perfect Tosca as well. You probably can find it on you tube.

I absolutely love Domingo and Milnes together, they blend really well together sing and communicate effectively. And I have really loved all the other duets that have been posted, I was especially taken with In Un Coupe... and The Pearl Fishers Duet, and one of my favourite little things about watching those duets was Milnes' uttering of the name Cassio during Si pel ciel.

When it came to his acting he was very gifted at that, true it sometimes lacked subtlety, like during Si Pel Ciel and Act 2 of La Fancuilla Del West he looks like a predatory cat, but very compelling

However, my enjoyment of watching two of my favourite singers perform is starting to diminish after seeing so many people carp about Milnes' technique. I don't mind when someone I admire is criticised but I do when not only the comments made are blunt and artificial but expressed in an ignorant and opinionated manner, which is the case with most people on KZfaq. This was especially the case watching Milnes singing Uma Fatale, which I thought he did a good job with, but once again more arguing.

Milnes' technique wasn't perfect I agree, he did have hook a lot, and he did have a tendency to sing flat. However, nobody has a perfect vocal technique not even me and I'm a singer, and Milnes never has, and never will be the only singer operatic or otherwise to sing flat(or sharp even). Even with any imperfections he had, in his prime he has a powerful and masculine voice which got edgier in later years, and he always commanded the stage superbly even in concert.

I always liked Sherrill Milnes and Placido Domingo is a phenomenal musician. Unfortunately, he has no squillo (ring) in the upper register which I find disappointing.

Bad "Finalnente" from Milnes. You want to hear the best "Finalmente" out there? Merrill (with Tucker) 1972 Met Opera Gala. It will grab you to the core.
