It's actually the oposite, on average, people are getting taller. you might have confused it with "island dwarfism" where, when a population is isolated on an island, the population tends to shrink down over generations.

Height tends to be good for fighting, it increased body mass which lets you be more durable when people hit you and reach to strike out. Of course with guns that kinda doesn’t matter but when it comes to stuff like boxing or MMA you’ll notice height and weight gives you a adavantage.

Mythologial kobolds are tiny and often ugly humanoids with vast magical powers, mieschievous tricksters. The term is somewhat equal to mythological gnomes and goblins, more or less the german equivalent. This mod, however, most likely refers to the usage of the term in D&D, where they are child sized lizard people with dragon ancestry. Warcraft kobolds are closer to the mythological ones. Given their underground theme, they are most likely specifically based on Knockers, mieschievous mine spirits, which can be considered to be a subtype of kobolds (if we take the term wide). By appearance, they have strong similarties to the irish Fear Dearg.

Amazing that Pravus not only doesn't know D&D, but played through a D&D meme scenario without knowing what the meme was about. The kobolds in WoW and like Pravus was talking about are more in line with real world folklore, and closer to the first edition D&D kobolds. I'm not sure why D&D kobolds turned into tiny dragon people in 2nd and 3rd edition, but they are icons of the game now so doubt that will ever change.

Being short lets you survive on less food, while being taller is good for most other things. For most of the world having enough food is less of a concern than it used to be, so the average height is increasing.

Being bigger does carry with it a slight increase in resistance to cancer, as cancer will kill itself before it can kill you if you're big enought. Tho if I remember correctly out of all land creatures only elephants are completely immune to death from cancer.

Speaking as someone who is 6'3", being taller isn't as cracked up as it's made to be. Spinal issues increase substantially for every inch past 6', and once you pass 7', heart problems become prevalent. Most of the tallest humans on record died from heart failure prior to turning 30.

In folk lore Kobolds bassically serve the same purpose. It's in pop culture that there's a significant difference. They're depicted as dog-like in Japan, and lizard-like in the US. They generally live colonially, have a penchant for digging about half the time, and are regarded as goblins but clever in terms of mannerisms.

for height, i can see some advantages for both being tall and being short if your short - you can more easily fit in tighter spaces - less posture/ache issues - reach lower without bending if your tall. - you can run faster - reach higher up

Supposedly there are some kobold myths that associate them with fire. And supposedly there's a couple cases where certain types of kobolds are called 'drakes'. If anyone can confirm that, there's where the conflation of kobolds and dragons (the one that D&D runs with starting from 3rd edition) would come from. .....either that or D&D decided "they're the house spirits within dragon homes, why wouldn't their forms reflect the ego of the homeowner?" or something like that.

Hello Pravus. Kobold. The word originates from German legends as a small underground dwelling reptile species in ancient tales. In such tales, kobolds were enemies of dwarves and stole things from the dwarves as well as fought them occasionally. Fights were mostly ambushes of small dwarf parties, since kobolds were in no way as strong or had the endurance and constitution of dwarves. The balance was that kobolds were 'sneaky', stealthy, cunning, and could go places that even dwarves could not fit. D&D kobolds were created to fit this theme. So they are around 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall, slim, scaled, reptiles that are cunning, sly, stealthy, can see in the dark, and opportunists in taking things away from others too large to engage frontally. Masses of kobolds are, indeed, dangerous. And a kobold 'swarm' has a much higher morale and dedication to fighting for what they want or need. Since kobolds breed very quickly and in large numbers, they can be a real 'pest' in the underdark. Kobolds tend to stay in and around the deeper regions, but often are in conflict with Goblins closer to the surface world. Kobolds with little access to the surface, or other races with such contact, rarely have 'real' weapons. Their weapons being more like the poorer tribes of Goblins. Both species collect, breed, and utilize spiders, cave rats, and various insect species. Both for food, and resources. The deeper tribes of kobolds have entire 'cities' of their own and have a higher 'technology' than those further away in smaller tribes. They mine and refine metals, make weapons and armor, and simple machines. They have a 'more advanced' culture, and see themselves as descendants of Dragons. I recommend reading source materials for D&D to get a better handle upon kobolds. The game seems to have as a premise, a D&D kobold that uses some sort of magic to cause changes to 'infect' the world to create more kobolds.
