The wife and I just picked up a used 90D as a "budget" Model S and we are having so much fun with the car. It's still the fastest car we've ever owned. I keep thinking, holy cow, the plaid is 2x as fast 0-60 as ours...it's hard to even imagine! But, thanks to channels like yours, I have yet to have anyone try to ask for a race and we have plenty of R/T Challengers in the area along with plenty of "Ricers"...We were going to just go all out with the Plaid, but we decided to wait and see what the new specs will be with the 4680 cells and hope for a cool down in the supply chain & production constraints. With a couple year time horizon now for our plaid, we're gonna let our Tesla Shares buy our Tesla Plaid for us...in the mean time, we are loving our 90D! Keep up the great videos!

It was good to see how well the P100D and M8 could do (still being very quick cars). It was a shame that the Supra and Mustang didn't actually run against you. It was interesting to see you run against your former Plaid with the 21" wheels. He lost more than a 0.1 in the 1/8th, but still had a 148MPH 1/4 mile time. He had to be pleased how well the Plaid ran after so many passes. That shows how well Tesla improved the engineering from the P100D, which is lightning quick, but has far less power at the top and and drastically loses power with heat and with low charge.

👍Good point. In this particular run, we really wanted to see the ET difference between the 19”s and 21”s since we had exactly the same battery levels. As expected, the 19”s were quicker down the track, and stayed consistent all night long. The 21”s? Not so much…

Great video Andrew, it's been a while. Thanks for the mention. Looking forwards to putting up a video of some of these runs. I was just thinking, that when lining up with turbo cars, if you're not sure they're going to cut a light, you could wait until you hear them start coming up on boost to aim for a closer race. There's typically going to be 1-3 seconds from when they come up and launch, but just if you don't hear them come up at all during pre-stage, that could hopefully get some closer ones. It was still fun watching that Supra chase you down! One question...in the beginning, lining up with the P100D, you said 'we're going to see how deep we can get into launch control'...does that mean you can activate launch control (Cheetah Stance?), and still take off if it's not fully ready?
@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Although no longer called “Cheetah Stance” in the Plaid, it’s really the same thing. It takes 10-11 seconds to fully engage into “Launch Control Ready”. It’s rare to get that far unless running solo (or the other driver agrees to something). Most of the benefit is still there within a few seconds. Just barely starting it seems to be worse sometimes. And of course, it doesn’t hold for very long after Ready. Maybe 8 seconds?

After wiring up rear Dashcams in three previous Teslas (2016/2019 Model S and 2018 M3), I decided it wasn’t worth the extra effort to do it the same way as the other two Model S. Routing the cable through the rubber tube and grommets was always a major pain. Since my Plaid is *not* a daily driver, I don’t mind the cable being slightly visible. If you’d like to see photos of both ways (through the grommets and how I did the Plaid), send a FB messenger request…

@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Well, strange thing. The Auction ended on Thursday but the *winning* bidder accused the auction of being illegitimate. He would not reply to messages or make a deposit. So the transaction was cancelled. It’s back on eBay now with a Fixed Price: $149,900. (Essentially the last bid$ of the auction) As for the Plaid S brakes: Mine has never displayed the alert, because I’m careful not to make more than a few runs per hour. For other reasons (safety, reliability, battery longevity), I have no desire to make 5 *quarter-mile* runs back-to-back. (And on most nights, the lines are too long to allow it anyway.) So I’m content and confident with the stock brakes. Why? Because I’ve already done 1001 dragstrip runs on a 2019 Tesla (running mid-10s), and still haven’t replaced the pads 😃

Nitto NT01s were used in about half of these Plaid runs. They have more rolling resistance. Heavier. Slower. When I race during a T&T night at Atco, I always do a solo run as I want no distraction from the other lane and I hate when they rip my time slip in two. They don't even use a pair of scissors! Since I have kept at least 90% of all of my time slips/cards since 1977 I don't want some poorly hand ripped slips. Besides, I drag race for fun and my goal is to strive for a personal best, not prove I can beat the racer next to me. Back when I first started drag racing heavy paper "cards" were used , not a printed out paper for time slips. These cards had the ET and mph hand written on them by a couple track officials in the timing tower. Only ET and MPH info was given back then.

So, you use 3% of your battery charge for each run. That's 30 runs, a quarter mile each, it means your total range is only seven and a half miles. See -- I told you those EVs were some kind of scam! 😊

It’s a long story, but it all worked out perfectly. Got a delivery a month sooner when they were only delivering 21”s, made 73 dragstrip runs for “free”, and got one of the first ever 19”s ever delivered. Perfect.

When testing certain things like changes to the suspension, drivers are wise to ask to go down solo, or otherwise wait for the other car to go far down the track. Wiping out into the wall is bad enough, but taking out another car is far worse…

@@TeslaPlaidChannel It is not fair to race a light with a tesla,,they grab the ground,,,my grandma can do those times in a tesla and she grew up riding a horse in Alberta Canada on her farm and never had a license,,,the tesla should not be on a track or racing gas cars,,,it is not fair. Gas cars are for passion and teslas are just another program that does not use the person in the seat....

It's gonna happen soon enough maybe even by the summer of this year. The rimac nevera has already gone 8.5s and the lotus evija is very likely a 7s ev hypercar. Plus the fastest plaid already did a 8.9x last summer. The evija is supposed to do 0-180+mph in under 9secs. Weighs 3700# and has 4 motors with 2000+hp. 🤔 Already got a couple 7s ev rail dragster. And Ford has gone low 8s already in the way to heavy 5,000+# cobra jet e 1400.

@@livelong6685 from what i've heard the plaid's motors are 400hp each (said the tesla employee at plaids launch event) so if roadster is four motors then that's 1600. but they don't max out the motors it seems. i think they will have newer motors with more hp if they want to beat the rimac, or that roadster will have to be pretty light.
