- Local Library - I realize this isn't an option for everyone, but I heavily utilize our library. If they don't have books you want, especially if they are newer, request them! Libraries want to fill their shelves with books their patrons want to read and are normally happy to fulfill book requests. If they don't have a book and it's too old for them to get, they can often get books via interlibrary loan as well.
- Libby App - The Libby app is a great way to have access to free audio books as well as e-books. You can use a library card from anywhere (some places will give you library cards online reguardless of where you live), and access thousands of audio books and e-books to check out for free.

Thank you so much, Laura. It’s so hard to not want/expect to do a pre-made unit in its entirety. So helpful to hear even you, the creator, say you are picking and choosing what works best for your kids. And I love the goal setting at the beginning. Really smart to help you stay focused as you curate what’s feasible to do out of the unit. You demonstrated how to break a unit down into an organized, manageable amount! Thanks for taking us along.

Have you read “Jim the Boy” by Tony Earley? There are two books with the same title, so you want to make sure it’s the one by Earley. It’s set in the same place and time as “Light Comes to Shadow Mountain,” and there’s a beautiful/haunting scene when the power comes on for the first time. It’s a really good book! I’m sure you don’t want to add another piece to your unit study 🤣🤣🤣 but you might enjoy reading the book just on your own while you’re immersed in this world. There’s also a wonderful album of bluegrass ballads by Paul Burch called “Last of My Kind” that was inspired by Earley’s book. Cheers!

I’m really interested in trying your units after watching Arlene’s video. Will you really have kits with all the things included? That was so much!

Yes. We really do have kits with all of that included. We updated some of the packaging since launch, and have better pens, but otherwise, they are what you see Arlene unpacking. I have all the pieces ready and we are pre-packing several to prep for launch. We even have sibling add on options for the reporter’s kit supplies, the electric kit, and the embroidery kit. The two things holding us up are getting everything working properly on the website and getting everything through copy editing. This was my first unit and I did some things out of order and it’s a bigger process than I anticipated. As soon as that’s done though, we are go for launch! 🚀 I’ve also started work on our next unit too.
