In this video I’m setting up my first theme in my brand new Mellow Days journal so it’s time for my july 2023 bullet journal setup! In all honesty, this wasn’t a very fun and exciting setup for me, I wish it was but sometimes that just happens and it felt like all the stress and anxiety of life came to me all at once 🙈 But my theme for this month is loosely inspired by my 2021 July theme with mediterranean houses and I also painted a lot of fun colored, kinda wonky and imperfect houses in this one and I have to say, even though I kiiiiinda hated the spreads immediately when I got them done, now with some distance, I like this theme and I’m excited to use it!!

The first thought I had when I saw the thumbnail was your theme from two years ago and it seems like I wasn't wrong! I think it can be so fun to revisit old themes and have that continuity in your journal but also see how your style has changed and if you can interpret the topic a bit differently or with different materials. Loved it as per usual! And it is also giving me major Venice vibes since I just was there and the main architectural elements are quite similar and I am not mad about that at all. As for the watercolor mixing - I find that colors tend to appear more muddy and less clear if that makes sense if you are mixing warm and cool shades as opposed to warm with warm and cool with cool. Like a cool yellow with a warm red might read more muddy than if you would mix a cool yellow with a cool red. This is my super unprofessional explanation but basically when the undertones of the colors are closer together on the color wheel, you get a more clean tone overall. 🏛🏛🏛

I love it! (and you have inspired me to try buildings, which I normally avoid). You are too hard on yourself.... as you get older, you learn that sometimes its best just to say less. Once you start, its often hard to stop.

Thank you! I definitely disagree with you on this tho, as I tried to say multiple times in the video, I want to be honest with my audience and saying something like ”I had a blast with this theme and I love absolutely everything about it!” just isn’t genuine and many people have said how it actually helps them hear others voice their disappointments sometimes so they don’t feel so alone with theirs. Like I said in the video, most of my negative thoughts about this theme just have to do with my own expectations, my very strict time-frame and just the stress of life that often affects every part of my life. As an artist and content creator I think it’s my job to voice my not-so-positive thoughts too as everyone feels this way sometimes and acting like I don’t gives unreasonal expectations to others just starting. Social media is already so fake so just even an inch of honesty is in my opinion always better!

Tiina, thank you so much for sharing how disappointed you were with your spreads- I feel exactly the same way when I don’t get to spend as much time or if the paintings are just not what I expected. I love the colours & architectural details on your spreads. Understandably, we don't always love how things look & it sounds like you were a little overwhelmed getting this done in time... but it reminded me of my European holiday & it evokes all the good feelings for me!!! This reminds me of your mediterranean theme when you were just starting here 😊 I feel the same with the rush when setting up and it just takes longer to finish because of mistakes 🙈 But it’s always nice to hear you talk about it. Nevertheless, this whole setup still look great to me. I hope you had a fun midsummer 🏛️
