Damn, that physics model is super realistic. It doesn't have an "overly-bouncy" impact recoil like a lot of renderings seem to have.

Awesome simulations! One thing I noticed was that the midsection really seems to rip like paper. I'm no aerospace engineer, but around the wings is a system of struts and girders to evenly distribute the weight of the aircraft, making the wing section of the aircraft extremely durable. If you accounted for the structure between the cabin and exterior, I would bet your simulation would be second to none!

Looks like the planes ran out of fuel. So at least the passengers can take solace in the fact that they won't have to endure a fiery crash landing... just a regular crash landing.

Disturbing but equally brilliant! I'd advise people to play around with the playback speed settings; put it on 0.25 (slowest), and you can really appreciate how realistic this looks.

Between this and the interior livestream footage of the plane crash in Nepal that killed everyone on board a couple weeks ago, this pretty much solidified it in my mind that you can not survive being put in a shrapnel and G-force enhanced blender. It has given me peace though that you're dead on impact so you never have a chance to feel the pain.

What I’ve learned from this is that - in most cases - if you only want to be fairly dead, sit in the front or aft sections of the jet. If you’d like to be extremely, throughly dead, the mid-fuselage seats are your best bet.

This looks sooo cool, and interestingly the crashes you made with the plane moving forward but slamming onto the flat terrain (kinda as if the plane was stalling) look nicely similar to what real accidents under similar circumstances look like. Congrats man

Constructive criticism: As a real aviation nerd I gotta say this, and I hope you can use it to improve on your work and not take it personal :) 1: The planes are missing structural strength and flexability. When one part hits the ground, the entire plane seems to keep moving forward and breaks apart like a lego set. Nothing seems to put up a fight and it seems like everything was put together like a really big lego set. 0:36 is a perfect example. 2: Issue 1 can be directly related to the lack of "weight" of the airplane, as in it doesn't have a dynamic weight shift or differently weighted parts. As seen in example 1 (0:36), the wings aren't "attached" to the plane and when they hit the ground they simply act exacly like the fuselage did on impact (or any part of the plan, for that matter), they don't hit lighter or softer, they just hit the ground like they're 3 ton legos. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLGdoK6IzdWaemQ.html 3: It lacks structural integrity. It would be gereeat to simulate how parts are attached to eachother. For example, when a plane hits the ground at a decent angle, the impact will change the direction of the crash, like how cars ride/bounce along a wall when hitting it hard. The parts that make up the vehicle have friction (and tension) between them, keeping it together, so if the wing hits the ground, the fuselage will get dragged along with it and vice versa. You should use this simulator for recreating real life crashes. It would be really interesting to see how close you could get to the real thing and see how different factors affect crashes.
