Plane taking off in traffic in Alaska

I shot this video on a motorcycle trip to Alaska from Vancouver, BC 12 years ago. The time stamp for this clip was at 13:24 on August 17, 2007. The camera which I had used was Canon PowerShot G7. Since there were over 300 comments and many curious viewers, I have searched GPS location today. I did not have GPS locator in the camera then. So I have to track the time of previous pictures to find nearby places from the information in the pictures to estimate the distance and location of that particular service station. Luckily I found it eventually after many tries. The place is Eureka Lodge. The address is 685 Glenn Hwy, Alaska. GPS 61.9378326,-147.1735764
It is not uncommon that planes taking off from the highway in Alaska. Oftentimes I saw planes parked in the backyard of residents in remote mountainous area in Alaska. It seems flying make more sense than driving since residents in remote area might having hard time getting out by car, especially in winter.
By searching the GPS location, it has refreshed my memories again of this trip of lifetime. I saw sunshine, storm, hail, rainbow in one sky. I need GPS location for my own record…

A viewer from Alaska commented that Gunsight Mountain is sighted in the background at the beginning of the video. It seems that mountain is familiar with locals.

Alaska state law reads any plane has the legal right to use any roadway to land on or take off from and motorist must give them right of way when at all possible as long as there isn't a designated runway in the immediate vicinity of were they need to land or take off from. Taking off in traffic is easier because motorist can see them when they are already on the ground but landing can be a lot of fun because it can get a little unsettling when an aircraft suddenly drops out of the sky in front or behind you. Smaller aircraft like this one only need to be going about 60mph to take off and land so it's easier for them to blend with the flow of traffic unlike a 747 that needs to be moving at approximately 180mph to gain lift. Either way, if you see one coming give them all the room you can so you and the pilot will both live long enough to tell a interesting story

In the early 2000s, I was camping in a tiny town in rural Colorado. I went into town one Sunday morning and there was a 4 seat Cessna type plane in the parking lot. There is no airport near by. I asked the pilot how he got there. He said he landed on the highway outside of town and taxied through town.

I've driven past there several times when I was at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Beautiful place. Seeing a Super Cub gassing up, stopping for a snack, or using the restroom (its a two and a half-hour flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage in a Super Cub), never fails to wow the uninitiated.

The best Pie in Alaska served there at the Café .. I have seen this Guy and a few others take off and land here while the wife and I eat lunch .. be safe

Many pilots use roads in Alaska as runways. Very common. Everything is so far spaced that many people fly. Pretty cool

I was telling my friend about CA airparks (such as Cameron Park) where you just taxi through the streets to your house. He told me in Alaska there are 3 towns you CAN'T taxi through the streets.
