I was on the hunt for Valencian culture, so decided to visit Mestalla Stadium, the home of Valencia CF, the premier LaLiga team of the Spanish league. Tonight they were playing Almeria. However, I quickly remembered why I chouldn't buy the cheap seats.

Gary Neville managed Valencia once, back in 2015. It was one of the most disasterous mangerial spells in Spanish football. Poor Valencia have never recovered.

Vintage stadium, vintage video! I find Spanish football atmospheres a bit underwhelming, but always enjoyable football. And love how everyone takes a bocadillo to the game, so much better than pies :)

Excellent video, Scott! I like strong coffee. ☕☕ I was rooting for the away team. Just because Valencia had most of the fans the game being at home, and they had the home advantage inevitably.

By coincidence attended the same game whilst visiting the city. Suspect confusion on KIck Off time was because it probably listed UK time when buying the ticket whilst in the UK, the game was always going to be a 9pm local (8pm UK) kick off. Very enjoyable video as per usual, just a shame didn’t bump into Scott.

That's a wind band, and I played with them, once, when really rather drunk in 1987 (Sometimes I feel really old) Enjoyed the video as always. And I really liked Valencia too. Though playing one night in the bull ring was scary. I reckoned they'd just open the big doors if they didn't like us. I'd maybe have made it but the tuba player had no chance. That was fun.

Some incredible footage there Scott. Always had a soft spot for Valencia but never been. Those seats are a shambles but the stadium is something else. A few more euros hopefully gets you a longer way next time 😉

Hi Scott, went out here to watch Arsenal in May 2019(perfect time of year! 🌞) and they put us right up with the gods, too! Luckily we won 5-2! Amazing stadium, fans and club though. Sad to see them doing so badly at the moment. Great video.

Valencia CF at one his worst history moments Vs Almeria, one of the 3 last teams on the table. All together on a cold Monday evening at 9PM and broadcastet by GolTV a free sports TV Channel that surely you could watch at your hotel room. This is real hardcore football stuff

Like when I went to watch New York Rangers play at Madison Square Garden, I saw one game in the cheap seats so for the other game I paid a bit extra and got much better seats just above ice level

valencia are basically the spanish arsenal one of the best teams around at one point came very close to winning champiosn league also, but haven't won a thing now in years, though that might change for arsenal soon, valencia not so much

The stands in Spain look steeper than anything permissible in UK grounds. No wonder the high railings are in place, or is it just the camera that makes it look that steep? It looks like it's a stadium that might be brilliant when full, although a little tired and outdated by modern standards.

I watched a bullfight in Barcelona back in 1983 when it was still legal in Catalonia. I went with a group from the Youth Hostel and wasn't paying attention when somebody was buying the tickets. The tickets said, "Sol". Yup, there was no shade and we were sitting in direct sun for a couple of hours. I would gladly have paid more for a seat in the shade. Don't buy cheap seats.

By coincidence I attended the same game whilst visiting the city. I suspect Scott paid 25 euros for an adult as that was the cheapest I could see on the Valencia website which as his video shows was up in the gods. I actually paid 38 euros for 2nd tier right behind one of the goals.

For those wondering why a nearly sold-out game has so many empty seats... Valencia CF has a high number of season tickets' holders, around 35.000. So there aren't that many spare tickets for sale. And the people with the season tickets, if the match is not a high profile one and it's scheduled late on a week day, with bad weather on top (very cold night or heavy rain...) they are basically not gonna bother going and they will just stay home and watch it on TV.

I thought for a second there that you would be going on about RyanAir or EasyJet and why you shouldn't pay in advanced for seats. Boy was I surprised when I watched this video!

Valencia a pale shadow of what they used to be when managed by Hector Cuper & then Rafa Benitez. Sad to see their decline as they were one of the teams in La Liga who would stand up to Real and Barca.

Valencia is a big one in down at heel. Various changes of the club property, debts with the new ground construction and poor sportive managment have turned into now. A club who was champions league finalist and several years being in top 4 at the end of the season fighting for avoiding relegation this season.

If you ever wanna do a game in Italy go and see empoli is regarded as one of the worst stadiums in Europe they only get around 9 thousand per game but their ultra fans are a good bunch
