In this episode of Planet Coaster College, I'm taking time to show how the X-Coaster - in real life known as a 4th Dimension coaster - works and how you can build one in-game. This one takes a bit longer than usual, since the focus is on the coaster type's unique spinning seat mechanics, rather than just its layout. That said, I hope you can still learn something from some of the parts in this video, especially if you've been too intimidated by the coaster type so far - it's barely been used until now, even though it's one of the most interesting and creative types once you get used to the controls!
Small note: I said lie-to-fly in the video a few times where it should've been fly-to-lie. The direction pretty much just refers to whether you're going from a position underneath the track to above the track or the other way around, but it's a term I messed up in the video nonetheless.
Small recommendation: if you like the coaster type and would love to know it works in real life, Coaster Bot has made a great video about X2:
• What is: X2 - Six Flag...

About Planet Coaster College: PCC is a series of video guides in which I cover many aspects of making realistic and creative parks in Planet Coaster. One of my goals with the series is to make a video explaining each of the coaster types avaliable and show you how to build them, but there will also be some videos about elements of theme parks and the game in general, such as buildings and scenery. Overall, the series is directed toward already seasoned players of the games, though I do sprinkle tips that may be useful for beginners too.

I've ridden X2, a 4 dimensional coaster in California, and it was honestly the most painful ride I've ever been on. You have to hold yourself in and keep your head from banging everywhere. Oh, and forget about your legs, they fly everywhere, and by the time the ride is over, you have a broken leg, snapped neck, and possibly major concussion. The thing is....all of that is worth it because X2 is just unbeatable in uniqueness and excitement. It's the BEST worst ride out there!

Even though Frontier didn’t add the realism of the X rails moving up and down according to the seat rotation, if you watch the video of the coaster train, not the POV, you can see the ratchet gear actually moving when the seats rotate, including in this video. They did nail that detail quite well!

21:23 I believe that, while not modeled after Vekoma Flying Dutchman flying coasters, the game does have the B&M alternative. The flying/Stingray coaster in the game is the equivalent, with the only real difference from a Dutchman being the manufacturer. And I would love a PCC on flyers.

10:30 - X2's Raven turn is more of a continous half loop, while Dinoonda and Eejanaika both have a stall to them. Both Dinoconda and Eejanaika also do a full seat rotation during the Raven Turn while X2 doesn't so I'm pretty certain the different shaping is G related.

I have been on x2, I don't remember it very well but it was still fun. The history behind the 4d coaster is very interesting, the owner of sf magic mountain met with the guys from arrow dynamics, and they didn't like how short the layout in the animation was so they designed the original X.

The reason X2’s Raven turn and Dinoconda’s Raven turn are different is because, they are made by different manufacturers. X2 was the last coaster that Arrow made before they went bankrupt. After that, S&S decided to revive this coaster type and make the others.

Still hoping they add the ability to set custom supports in. The trackworx and support pack (forgot what it was called) certainly added another level of customization in RCT3, I think it would be neat for this game too. E: I'm aware you could build your own out of a million elements meshed together, but surely it would be easier to do the entire track custom if we had pre-fab pieces that worked similar to how they did in RCT3 (resizing themselves as needed).

you dont hit the face-down drop soon enough, and you have the bottom of the drop putting all of the Gs on the riders' shoulders. then your element you made, its cool, but you rotated it a way that pushes you away from your seat at a quite forceful spot. , which is fine for vekoma flyer or b&m flyer.. but arrow/s&s restraints dont allow that dynamic comfortably. that's why these feel not as crazy as you might expect with always rotating to have the force towards the back of the seat
@Silvarret
@Silvarret 7 жыл бұрын
True, thanks for the tip. To be very honest, I realized the bad rotation on there, especially compared to X2/Dinoconda/Eejanaika which don't have it, but I didn't bother to figure out the right rotation for that section. You saw straight through my laziness!

these coasters also rock back and forth a bit, dinoconda does this just after the station. I know rollercoaster tycoon 3 has the vekoma flying dutchman, but for some reason they went with the B&M flying coasters. (4 seats on each side of the track) The joker also doesn't curve around(like he said all the real life 4D do), It's all built up. A Straight up lift. I wish you didn't do predrop on all of your coasters. Like literally the majority of steel coasters don't have that at all. it's steep climb followed by steep drop.

ALL 4D coasters have a pre-drop. I'm sorry, but I'm following what is realistic for the coaster type here.

Ah yeah, I'm sorry for my blunt reply. It happens to be because many of the coasters I've made are older/less standard coasters that do have predrops commonly. When I get to some newer ones, I'll let them out though. That said, most coasters do need pre-drops to let the strain of the lifthill chain.

@@Silvarret Is there a physics reasoning to pre-drops, or is it more of a psychological false-start type of thing?
@Silvarret
@Silvarret 5 жыл бұрын
@@western2396 there is! It's to disconnect from the lifthill chain. Otherwise the coaster would be dragging down the chain.

The seat rotation wouldn't be a problem if Frontier kept the beta build interface for these coasters. The release version of that interface is bad and Frontier should feel bad.

I really, really, really, really hate how you can't make it spin multiple 360 rotations in the same direction. It always has to go the other way first.

This coaster is a bitch to get right.. The first thing I decided to do when I got planet coaster was recreate one of these.. The track layout was decently easy, but the seat rotation, oh god what a nightmare.
