Installing a Header Assembly and Rot-Proof Door Jambs [DIY Post Frame]

In this video I install the header for the back overhead door on out DIY post frame woodshop. This door is 8' x 8' so it's a great deal easier to install than the large front door which is 10' x 16'. Like all of the doors on this building, I rot-proofed the jambs by splicing-in a section of ground contact treated lumber at the bottom where it comes into contact with the concrete. Also like the other doors, I put extra wood preservative in these areas as well. They should last as long or longer than the building itself. The same cannot be said of buildings built this way where normal un-treated construction lumber is used against concrete. In that case, you can expect the bottom part of the jamb to completely rot within just a few years.

About a week now until the Amish get here to do the roof and whatever other tin we have them do! I am hoping that they can get the roof and gable ends tinned and the house wrap on in two days at the very minimum. Once the housewrap is on I can install the doors and windows. Next Monday is the best day to get the housewrap on so it's possible that Natalie and I can that done, and I can install windows and doors as the Amish work on the roof. It's going to be incredibly close - but I do believe I can get the exterior done before the snow flies! Kind of. I designed the building myself and made a 3-D model, but it is mostly wireframe. I have been filling-in details as I need them for drawings. The rest I just pull from the model.

@@bpdp379 No. This is the first one. I've built a run-in for the horses in post frame style though. That one has posts in the ground though. I built the house as well. It's a super insulated design that borrows details from BuildingScience.com
