Sorry had to jump in with a comment about your fear that being a phd student is inconsequential when it comes to making a difference, and say that my partner in his role now as a prof, he exposes his students to so much material that opens their eyes to social justice and equity issues they’d never heard about or learned about, and so many of them tell him they are forever changed by learning from/with him. And you do that as a TA too. Hang in there ❤❤

good luck on your exams, lauren! i finally caved and bought a common planner for 2024, but i am not a weekly planning person, so i love seeing how you use your weekly layouts to get ideas for mine. regarding your motivation and existential crisis, i just wanna say hang in there! i actually work at a university and seeing the ways our students and faculty members have been using their knowledge, skills and resources these past few months has been inspiring. organizing teach-ins, supporting undergraduate student activists, putting pressure on university admins to support students & show up in solidarity, having thoughtful & engaging dialogue with their peers and students, etc. the work you do is so important!! i know it might not feel like it now when there is so much happening in the world, but i promise you're making an impact in your own way ✨

Ahh Lauren, I feel you so hard. As a fellow PhD student with OCD my comps were hell (and they’re a lot less involved in the UK). Currently just started thesis write up and it’s a wild ride 🤪 I don’t really have any words of encouragement except you are not alone in this and I’m sorry this is so hard ❤ but we’ve got this! A fellow student likes to remind me that far more mediocre people have managed to finish their PhDs and we will do this too 🙏🏼
