I plan to quit once my lease is up in September and relocate across country. This video gave me the clarification I needed on “why” I needed a second job now to make my gap year a stress-free reality in September. I’m taking a gap year before I head back to grad school and it needs to be stress free financially and mentally because whew chile. I like the idea of the resignation letter and since I work from home I can put it on my desk and see it every morning. 😊

My advice: keep aggressively applying for work even after accepting a job offer. It can take employers weeks or even months to respond whereas it doesn't take you nearly as long to know if you can yourself at your job on day 91. Also, you never know you might find an even better deal.

I'm planning to leave my job in 4-5 months (or sooner) by job searching. My ultimate plan is to quit the 9-5 life in general and become my own boss. So during the next few months, I will be working on my exit strategy, job searching for a flexible remote job that will allow me to fund my entrepreneurial journey.

It is absolute miracle that i’ve got pregnant (diagnosed with infertility and not being able to get pregnant for many years, not even with the ivf!!) and didn’t miscary while working in that toxic culture under so much stress. Am planning to exit finding another job, will start the search during maternity leave.

I"m going to quit my job in 3 months. I would like to have at least a year at my current employer just for resume purposes. I have already started my job search and I am taking advantage of some training opportunities at my current employer to be able to add to my resume when I start applying. I'm going to write my resignation letter this evening.

Mercedes, Here's my situation. I am also stressed out. I needed to request a transfer. I could not handle the site anymore. Waiting for my boss to find me a new site. I had to leave the lawfirm account. Too much drama, too much politics. Putting a dead mouse inside my security blazer with an attached threatening post-it message is the straw that broke the camel's back. It is a toxic environment. I worked there for almost 2.5 years. The silent treatment became unbearable but the dead mouse and threatening note did it for me. Monday night was my last day. I am now a man without a site anxiously waiting to start working at a new location. People are really mean which is the main reason why I love to be alone. Thank God I have enough sense to save money for a rainy day. I hope to be at a site in the next few days. You say?
@MercedesSwan
@MercedesSwan Жыл бұрын
Hey Guido, I am so sorry that this has happened to you! Its good that you have a boss who is interested in helping you find a new site. I would recommend launching your job search. I think it's awful that this behavior and harassment is permitted. It would be a red flag for leadership and trusting the employer for me. I think you'd be happier elsewhere since you haven't shared a good reason to stay. Take the other assignment until you're able to transition to a new appointment if possible.

Hi I am working on my exit plan by looking for a new job. 1. I did write my letter of resignation, I am Working a date to actually submit it ( I don’t want to be in fear or feel I like I have to stay somewhere that is no longer serving me because of it 2. I am planning an escape from two places one I just started ( it’s not hard but it makes me feel uncomfortable) The second place is dealing with peoples lives and there is no ending to it ( paperwork has become overwhelming and I just don’t feel valued there)

Did you actually say that your entire thing is really to help black professionals succeed???? WHY? Why do you have to be specific to one race. Do you know the hell that would be raised if a white person said that their thing is to help white people succeed???
@MercedesSwan
@MercedesSwan 22 күн бұрын
I absolutely said that and I'll say it again! My content reflects and speaks on the unique experiences that Black women face in the workplace. Whether or not we want to acknowledge this, the majority of career content is not designed with Black women in mind. Black women face different challenges in the workplace and need guidance and a safe space to address our challenges. If the content is helpful to others I LOVE that, and I'm glad it helped you if that's the case.

I like your videos but I’m white. I think you might be deterring potential customers if you only want to work with a specific racial group. It’s just a suggestion.
@MercedesSwan
@MercedesSwan 2 жыл бұрын
Hi N, I used to think that too! But in 2020, as my personal commitment after the murder of George Floyd, I dedicated my career coaching business to helping and creating a safe space for Black Professionals. My why is deeply personal, and passion driven and its why I choose to work with who I work with. Despite ALL of my content being geared towards Black Professionals, I find that white professionals who are DEEPLY passionate about DEI and take action on their Ally-ship are the ones who decide to ask if I'd work with them despite being white. Those are the type of people I want to work with! If I'm deterring those who don't prescribe to that, I'm A-OK. 😍 Black professionals have been the people who have supported my business from the start, and I wouldn't want it ANY OTHER WAY. 😍

@@MercedesSwan I’ve never really liked the phrase ‘white privileged’ much because I’m white and I’ve lived through desperate poverty and homelessness and when we did get rehoused it was in a deprived area. It was also at the height of a conflict in my country, so the housing estate I lived in was also a war zone. I’ve had to fight every step of the way throughout my education and career. Despite my career success, I still experience snobbery, sectarian and elitism in the workplace, based on where I’m from and even how I speak (my accent). It wasn’t a criticism of your channel or anything, but sometimes I think we all focus too much on race and often don’t hone in on the finer details too. I know many black people who are extremely wealthy and privileged (loads of friends in the Texas area of the US) , I also know many who are poor (in the greater New York area) and I also know many white people and other ethnic minorities who are in desperate poverty. Race isn’t always a golden ticket to opportunity or privilege.

@@nmcn8347 This type of response is part of the issue. My role in this life is not to explain this to you, but there are tons of resources online that can help you understand how white priviledge benefits those who do not come from a elite background. Wishing you well in your job search.

@@MercedesSwan If I put a video on here and called it ‘Career Advice for White People’ I would be called a racist, I’d probably end up on the news, people would attack me on the street and the content would be taken down immediately by YT. I think we all know who is abusing their privilege here…
