Hi everyone!! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. It's perfectly fall like today and I am working up 84 ears of corn for the freezer and making pepper steak for supper. If you listened carefully pepper steak is not the meal planned, but that's what we're having and I'm looking forward to it.

Yes, I understand about your Mother not liking the food at her facility. When my Mother was in a facility, she almost rarely ate what they offered. We put a little refrigerator and microwave in her room and kept her stocked with food and drinks that she wanted. My Mother has been gone for 5 years this year and I remember her being so picky well. Great video!!

I could talk about yellow rice for days. It is totally delicious, and inexpensive. I make a one pot meal from mine. I poach a couple of chicken thighs in water, and a little salt. I use the broth that creates, as the water for the yellow rice. I add chopped onions, sliced mushrooms (optional, but delicious), extra minced garlic (1 or 2 tablespoons, or to taste), chopped bell peppers (of any color, but I prefer red). I have also, from time to time, added a can of black beans and a can of corn. When the chicken is cooked through, remove, debone and shred. As I said, I use the broth created as the water for the rice. You only need the amount on the package. Follow the package directions for amounts of "water" and either oil or butter. Add in the chicken, onions, garlic, mushrooms, peppers, and/or beans and corn. Cook as directed, but be prepared to cook a little extra time. Delicious. I have had it by itself, (no add-ins), as a side for fried chicken or pork chops, or even a pork roast. It is magnificent. I hope your family really likes this. I also think the Vigo brand is the best.

Omgosh Jennifer! I have so missed you and we can even comment now! I can't believe Emily is having another baby! I feel like she just had Colt! Aren't they just the best!?! My three moved to Texas at the end of June, and while I am so happy my daughter and SIL got out of California, I miss this horribly. Hope to see them at Thanksgiving! We did grow potatoes in those bags and they did great! We tried several varieties. It's so funny I love these videos and I hate to shop and my husband loves to cook so much I rarely do, but I just love peaking into your life. God bless!

Oh happy day!!! I LOVE when you announce cranberry harvest because I am cranberry crazy. And this time of year I up my game in the pantry for all things cranberry. Cookies, Breads, and sauces are ALWAYS on the menu. So you harvesting means the stores will be stocked and since so many folks seem to be in the hoarding mode…well you know the saying, when in Rome….! Listening to you chat about your meal planning reminds me of the days of my youth when our family of 9 children were consuming gallons of milk, loaves of bread and rolls of bath tissue. How my folks did it is beyond my understanding but I do once a month grocery hauls as well even though it’s not for a large family. I just like to keep my pantry full and my jars and crocks full. I still cook from scratch so I want to have what I need to be at my fingertips. I hope your other subscribers take your planning and run with it because you have some excellent ideas that are tried and true from all the vlogs I have watched of yours. Looking forward to seeing the harvest and even though to your family its work but to me…it’s a pleasure. Thanks for enlightening and entertaining me and know I appreciate peeking in on your life…what you share that is. I missed not seeing Joe photo bomb Mom!!!:):):)

Hi Jennifer! That was a really nice grocery haul! Great menu plan also! So many good ideas! Yes, I too like seeing what others get in grocery hauls. And what their going to do with it? Because some recipes I forget about & haven’t made in ages & it is just a reminder to me. I like switching things up & not eating the same things wk after wk also! But my family likes familiar foods though! Yes, we take advantage of our DG app! Yes, they put one in our small town a few yrs ago & what a blessing that’s been! Very convenient. We’ve also been taking advantage of our DGPickup. You order online & then they shop for your items & you walk in & pick it up! So so easy! Thanks Jennifer for all your great ideas! 😁❤️

We love yellow rice, we use it to make easy pallea. Cook chicken, sausage with onions & peppers. Add black beans, garlic powder and Rotel. Cool for 20 min. Cool rice according to directions and add to meat/beans. You can add shrimp at the very end of the cooking time with beans if you like but we normally have it without shrimp. Not a “real” pallea but it’s a favorite at our house

I have bought groceries monthly for at least 30 years. It gets easier every year and I have it down pretty much to a science. I know I have a certain amount and I can fill my fridge and freezer. And yes I often have plenty for at least a week or two extra if need be. I also plan out my meals of what we have on a calendar and my family knows what is on that day may get changed depending on what we are wanting. I planned my budget so well for the last 3 months that I have enough food in my freezer to supply us until Halloween.

I made pepper steak this past week also. We love it and should do that more often. I enjoyed watching you plan meals for the month. I am horrible at planning my meals ahead and end up getting lots of things to cook but not always all of the ingredients for certain meals/entrees, so when I try to figure our what to make, I'm missing ingredients or use something forgetting I had bought it for a certain meal. I guess I'm a hot mess where meal planning is concerned. I will say I bought bell peppers with no plan and decided on pepper steak to use them up before they went bad. Thanks for the tips!

Good morning Jennifer and all. Thanks for the info about DG and the app. Moved recently and there is one but 2 miles away. I will now check them out and install the app. As I read that you are putting up corn I remember that very unique smell of the corn as I cut the corn from the cob. Why garden and preserve? Many reasons. Memories of hard work and it's rewards is one. Thanks for provoking gratitude this morning!

DG is everywhere. Seems every rural corner has one popping up. Oh yes, isn't it amazing how we can recall scents from our childhood.

Jennifer try the sour dough bread from ALDI. It makes the best grilled cheese. Freezes well. It’s a round loaf sliced

Yes good old DG, or as my son calls it “Dollar Gentral” lol. I’ve always loved that place, and they’ve gotten even better over the years. My mom always called it the hidden gem bc you could find goodies and deals in there all the time. Aldi is starting to have some great fall finds too. Always love your hauls, hope you have a great week!

Really I always seem to find them very expensive AND the sizes and quality (even name-brand) are not equal! Even at Walmart these days. For example toilet paper: they cut the rolls shorter by .75-1.25 inches. Thus you get less! My grandma always said you get what you pay for! Be savvy.

I'll have to look into what b Consilio comments about the sizes and do some price comparisons.

We have been empty nesters for several years now, I can’t seem to cook for only two people🤔 I’ve tried so now we eat leftovers sometimes 3 times during the week. I do break down any packages of meat or chicken so I have figured out two family size packs are enough for the whole month. My husband only eats the berry family accept for cranberry’s 😳 and he won’t eat desserts it drives me crazy! 😜 have a blessed week! I love your videos😊🌻💕
