I'm very happy for you. I think thats one of' the best decisions you've ever made. Shifting to selling big avocados, even if it meant less money. After all, money can't buy happiness, love, family, soul, health (although with more money, you could buy more medicine and etc for your health) and others. You're smart, strong and brave. You didn't even know how that big avocado would taste like (slight exaggeration). You've met so many new people like me throughout your new career or life. But the money is still sufficient. "It's bet to save money than to earn it" I didn't think of it that way, pretty thought- provoking. 27:24 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Today, I planted a mango seed, I haven't eaten the mango. I did plan on eating it, but right now it's 11:30 P.m, so it's very late. I put the glass over the seed to kind of give it that greenhouse effect. But the glass was on the edge, and so when I picked up the pot that the seed was in, it slipped and fell. It broke into dozen of timy pieces. A few hour ago, the same thing happened with the new glass. I'm too clumsy! So, I'll probably use a transparent, or at least a translucent bag until it becomes a seedling. I let the seed exposed to the dry air for several hour, hope that won't hurt it. I'll water it more for the first few, very few weeks, then take it back. I won't fertilize it until... probably early March. Ah man, always getting reminded of my previous mango. This time, I'm not noticing any mold whatsoever, whatsoever. However, it does appear a little wrinkly. It might be drying up, I have to put a bag. I haven't used (yet) the other methods of germinating mango seeds just because I don't have almost any experience (this is my second mango, eveeer) and I haven't "studied" the other methods. Hopefully, no spider mites and no root rot.

Not all investments are measured with dollar signs. Your decision was such an investment. To make that decision a reality you bought yourself a farm and run it as a business. A brilliant strategy. Though I heard you talking about your farm and investment strategies, I was thinking about those lessons and how they might apply them to my own situation. And I also want to mention that over the last several days, the soil of my avocado has been smelling horrible. There's a foul odor coming from the bottom of the pot. There's some fungus gnat larvae crawling too. There's a lot of rotten or dry roots near the surface, but when I dip my finger very deep into the soil, I accidently break a root, but these are ususally the healthy roots. So, the root rot might be affecting 15-20% of the root system. The smell was a bit off two weeks ago, but wasn't too bad, mainly near the surface. But 4-5 dyas ago, when one of the leaves got some brown spots in the matter of a few hours, which quickly killed the entire leaf by the next day, the soil smelled so bad, I started coughing and sneezing, perhaps the main culprit was the particles or small specs from the soil when I dug to sniff it. Nevertheless, the avocado still has over 30 leaves and still has a few, that don't have any brown tips, but it's concerning the fact that a lot of my avocados are wilting, not just my best one, and have slow and otherwise mild, but annoyingly consistent root rot. I think they'll be alright!!!

My avocados sometimes really confuse me, especially with the watring. My biggest avocado, along with my other 2 from late 2021 or early 2022 that have survived have also started to get root rot. However I started to feel asif my avocado was thirsty, despite suffering root rot and after I watered it (considerably), it actually bounced back briefly, which unfortunately, not long after, it began wilting again. But becuase I let it dry for too long, even though the soil was wet, a few of its newest leaves curled and overall the avocado is stunted. I know avocados hate being in dry soil, but in my case I had to let it dry for a little longer.

Loved this video! Opportunity Costs was like a spiritual awakening in college. Every dollar I spend is a dollar I can't spend on something else. Do you rot the mangoes the same way as you do avacados. I'm wondering how a small tree farm would get a lot of mango seeds without peeling and harvesting the meat of each one? I just recently realized if I bought a 3 gallon mango tree and kept it for 3 years, repotting it, my roi is better than stocks if I can sell it.

Whether you make money or not, every tree is an investment in the future 😊 one of my neighbours has a walnut in their front garden and most likely has no idea that's what it is. I'm planning to grab some for germination this year and get some walnut trees going. It's one of the slowest growing species- they say you grow it for your grandkids. Walnuts across Europe were decimated by demand for furniture in the 18th and 19th century and have never recovered. I love growing trees.

Yes I agree most people think of investment as money and return as more money but I look at it as an allocation of your scarce resources and the return is accomplishing the goal you set for yourself. If that goal is sitting on a swing under a walnut tree sipping lemonade with your grandchildren then as you say planting a walnut tree is absolutely excellent investment.

@SleepyLizard
@SleepyLizard 2 жыл бұрын
Remi, we don't grow bananas from seed. When I want a certain type of banana I buy a little plant. As it grows and produces a bunch it also sends little shoots from the base we call pups. Those pups grow into new trees. It's my understanding though I've never done it myself that you can grow banana plants from seed for the varieties that actually produce seeds. The variety commonly sold in your local supermarket, the Cavendish, does not produce viable seeds.

I never heard of Utuado but there's lots of varieties I don't know about. if you graft Utuado onto any tree the resulting tree will be Utado. Now, if something grows below the graft that will be whatever the tree was before you grafted but everything above the graft will be Utuado. As for if it will be a "dwarf". I'm a bit skeptical about there being dwarf avocado. The ones they claim to be dwarves still grow to 30'x30' on their own and will require annual pruning.
