That planter looks so familiar. Just last year I sold an old 490 planter to my friend Dan, who wanted it. I hadn't used it in 7 or 8 years, since I got the White 5100. In fact, my Pioneer salesman wanted to push it over the big cliff we have on the farm because he always had to try to get me varieties to match the extensive collection of plastic planter plates. By the way, if you have any of those plates, hold on to them. That same dealer called me last year to see if I had some a customer of his needed. That guy paid $50 for 2 plastic plates. Not bad!!

I can remember people still using those planters when I was a kid in the early 80's. Gotta go joe was not around today to help you on that one! 😂

Yes, they can become very compact for storage.

Years ago I had a 494 - good planters. I now have a 1294 JD planter. Mechanical markers are brilliant.

l ran planters all my farming career and never ever would run down the road with the drive chains hooked up if some thing would catch you would destroy your planter!! l have know luck!! just my two cents worth!!! l will still be watchin!!!!!

@@kennytoohill9024 But the drive chains are still turning and at road speed if something catches you are going to rip and bent stuff. L ran a 494 894 7000 and disconnected drive chains when on the road!!

This planter traveled many hundreds of miles and I don’t think the chains were ever taken off.

That planter would have be good at Jackson County fair consignment auction also think they hydraulic hoses n end worth more than planner but I in neutral about antique equipment

The gook mixed with grass clippings should make for a very good lubricant. Also sticking the gook infested finger into the ear chasing a bug might be an effective repellent.

Got some yard art out of your place . Was nice that buddy was able to make a close up view , we love are dogs there always close the farm cats also . Good to get little jobs done. From turkey creek farms be safe n thankful

Ross here in UK I have a David Brown 880 that Oliver 500 is basically a David Brown 850 great little tractors with so much grunt great to see yours in great condition

It really is a very nice little tractor. It’s a shame that the owner before me let it go downhill so much because I have a feeling it was in excellent shape when he got it.

Good old barnyard (aka scrap pile) engineering. Gosh Ross you're getting fancy with wing nuts !!! One benefit to small tractors, the ability to easily rock them to line up hitch pins, 3 pt arms, etc. 15 inch passenger tires are getting scarce in our area. Hard to justify the cost of new implement tires on old implements that get limited use.

Dad got a bug in his ear, a doctor got it out! We have a heeler mix dog , she is scared of cattle! She is a good companion for my brother!
