We planted over 1000 trees at the farm! there is a wide variety pf maples, oaks, tilias, ginkos, Kentucky coffee tree and more! we had duf up several trees with the tree spade in the past years and needed to restock the farm with fresh new trees. We used our kubota svl 75 skid steer with and auger to make the holes and leave the soil around nice and fluffy for backfill.

Can i ask why you dont plant them in a root bag then place them in the ground. That technology greatly improves your end product and is 10x easier to harvest.

Hey thanks for watching! To be honest I only briefly heard of them before hand wasn’t to sure what the main benefits are as we and our tree nursery suppliers have always used a tree spade to dig the trees when ready. Some of the trees end up being in the ground for 6-8 years in some cases longer. At which point a lot of those degradable bags I assumed would be mostly rotted as well. Do you have much experience with those root bags?
@paulnovak833
@paulnovak833 4 ай бұрын
@dirty.diggers the bags don't decompose. They can be placed directly in the earth. I've used them on a much smaller scale than you. I basically grow trees as a side income but reasonably serious. For me it's a game changer. I don't need a tree spade and all the accompanied things with that process. Look into it. It may not fit with you. The better root system alone is worth a look

@@paulnovak833 Interesting! Maybe next time we do a large amount of planting like this we can look into that as an option. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻

How long will you leave these in the ground before you sell them? Good video Andrew!

Thanks Bryan! It depends usually on the size the customer is looking for but typical is about 3-6 years. Also depends how big they are when we plant them. Some of these are already a bit bigger so if they take well maybe 2-3 years

How do you manage the roots in the nursery? Do you cut the roots? And if, how and when!? :) Thanks
@dirty.diggers
@dirty.diggers Жыл бұрын
We only cut them with a tree spade when it’s time to harvest them

@@dirty.diggers Have you ever used a traditional planter? Just wondering what your thoughts are about both options. I work at a tree nursery farm and we use a planter but are thinking of getting an auger to supplement the planting crew.
