Two days ago I Googled if I could do this. I am running out of room for large trees in my suburban yard... Soo soo happy to have found this today! Thank you for all of the great info Gary - my whole extended family is ready to help with the resulting fruit.

I use 1/3 raw honey and 2/3 water and spray the flowers every morning before they open and you will have hundred bees on the tree and it will train them to keep coming back. I have 3 super hass and one Monroe, that's Three A and one B and I still use honey. Try it you'll be very surprised how many bees come in about 30 minutes and stay till dark. More and more come every day. Plus your feeding the bees.

I do the same on my 20-foot Bacon Avocado tree. Get over 300 avocados a season and they are large. You need to get tons of Bees to pollenate

Thx Gary! Always enjoy your videos. I’m in the same situation; I have only a small yard right now. My solution was to graft up a “Frankencado”s. Mine has five types of A and B flower varieties and it’s thriving here in Jacksonville, FL.

In my east coast garden I grow paw paws. Same principle with paw paws. Plant unrelated trees close so branches overlap. Little unenthusiastic flys pollinate the flowers.

My lamb/hass is flowering now in Central Valley. I graft a/b varieties on same tree, your way is good if someone doesn’t like to graft. The guy, across the street has just finished harvesting all of his lamb hass fruit. He starts picking March first! I would of wait a month but he said that he likes to get all fruit off b4 flowering!

Great video Gary! How r the trees going now? What do u do it one starts being the dominate tree? I did this with a lemon and lime tree. The lime tree has taken off and the lemon has stunted… should I pull it out and move it away a little or try and fertiliser and feed just the lemon side. Cheers Matt

Is this your trees or planted for someone else? Did you have experience planting avocado 8 " apart beforehand there is not enough room for the trunks to expand normally they need at least 1.5 -2 ft so the trunks don't touch when the trees mature?

Hello Gary, In this video you planted a Lamb Hass (Type A) along side a Sir Prize (Type B). How are they doing now a year or so later? I was wondering if the growth rate and fullness of one tree overtook the other? I wanted to do this dual planting in my garden. Is it worth it? Or, should I plant two Little Cado trees and hope they cross pollinate. Two trees of the same type should grow evenly together. I have a small yard and I would like the Avocado trees to not grow taller than 15 feet tall. The Little Cado's would not require annual pruning. The Sir Prize and the Lamb Hass would require more pruning, to minimize the height. Any amount of gardening activity is worth high avocado yield. Please pass along your thoughts. You are a great gardening resource for the Bay Area. Thank you.

I had one Fuerte and one Zutano (both type B) that did not have fruits while other avocado trees I put them at the same time already had fruits (second year of flowerings). I just bought two Gwen (type A), and I am thinking to plant each one next to Fuerte and Zutano. Anyone has experience with this? I live in Northern California, so the winter is colder and longer than the other places in California. This may be made type B avocados more difficult to produce fruits. Thanks, Gary for a great video!

Nice job, Gary. How is the white paint sprayed on the tree when in small quantities? Just a small spray bottle?
@liarzdice3 жыл бұрын
It's just interior latex paint and water 50/50 you could use a spray bottle or paint brush. It has consistency more like water than paint so shouldn't clog. Probably need to rinse it out after though.
@RareAvoTrees3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do it too crowded , roots jacked up also pruning would be harder.

It is a last resort for folks that have space for only 1 tree and want max cross pollination fruit production and extended multi variety pick time.

Any variety will grow to suit its pot size, to keep it in the pot permanently you will need to prune back a branch once growth slows so the roots don’t over exert

Hello , how much avocado kilograms can produce a plantation of Avocado per hectare in California.
@michealsailor74233 жыл бұрын
I would back fill with native soil not potting mix. Potting mix has organic matter that can cause phytophthora if not enough sufficient drainage causing all kids of problems. Always native soil then
@sandybetts9974 ай бұрын
The worst thing you can put in the planting hole of an avocado tree, is any type of "wood products" such as fir bark, it will rot your tree! I would like to see those trees you planted three years ago. Lots of fir bark on top of the soil is very good, but not touching the trunk.
@ScaryHairyGary4 ай бұрын
I think this is a myth to large degree as most all nursery container mix is largely composed of fine grade fir bark. What materials would compose your organic material in your container or planting mix if not fir bark? No one grows in pure sand or inorganic except for some speciality plants that require extreme drainage such as rare succulents and cacti etc. Why would all of the avocado growers I know use large percentages of fir bark in their growing media for decades if it were so toxic? And why when I open up the boxes of these containerized trees would I see extremely happy roots literally consuming the fir bark if it were so toxic to them as you say? I'll need further convincing to believe such a postulation.

I get the lack of space part, but I see more space around yours, so why expect as an example are they so close? Doesn't that limit root growth and after 10 years the trunks will almost be touching. I can see that causing problems

Hello Gary, I would like your expertise support on my five year avocado program that so far has given us some tasteful satisfaction. Let me start by mentioning that we live in the very hot city of Bakersfield where it’s almost imposible to produce this amazing delicacy. .We’ve been some what successful with some of the varieties. Haas is the one that my ground amendment favors the most, although big black and Gem have made some promising progress. Please let me know if I can count on you for my 2022 blooming preparation and how my family I can assist you to make it happen. Respectfully Miguel Mariscal and family.
