Good morning. People have mentioned previously that you are more than a KZfaq channel and I hope you know that is true. A month ago I was watching a recap video when it dawned on me, I should take a test. 5 minutes and 2 lines later I’m rewinding and pausing because I was in too much of a hurry to stop the video before. You’ll forever be a part of my memory of finding out I’m pregnant. When my nephew was diagnosed with DIPG (terminal brain cancer) you were the first channel I caught up on for some normalcy. You’re more than a KZfaq channel. You’re more than a business. Thank you for not only your gardening and family content, but for being a staple in so many of our lives!

Please don’t take out the large rounded area of boxwoods. That was one of the first areas that so impressed me when I started watching your site! It makes such a huge formal statement in your yard. There aren’t too many people that are able to have enough room to have such an elegant planting. It is the one statement area that sets the tone for the whole yard. Makes me want to see the other areas when you see that spot👍🏻👍🏻💕💕My husband and I vote on Laura’s side to definitely keep it.!!!!

At the beginning of the pandemic, I bought whole pineapples not only to eat but to start new plants. After two years, I have two beautiful pineapples growing! So excited. The important start was to cut the top off, let it dry for a couple of days, and then place in a small glass of water with just the bottom 1" in the water. Within a couple of days, roots started. You can always try again!

Have had 100% success with water rooting method, I have even left them in water for 6 months because they look pretty in the kitchen, I have only ever had 1 pineapple fruit though, after about 5 years! They do make great plants in pots and in the garden with their spiky leaves and very little care required.

I've grown out grocery store pineapples before but they've never fruited. Live in zone 6b-7a. Couldn't overwinter in unheated greenhouse but could in my kitchen with south facing windows. They just get so big and I already have so many houseplants I gave up trying. Fun experiment though!

Thoughts on the formal boxwood planting in the back garden…What about a compromise? Take out the outer circle of bushes leaving the inner circle. The scale of the size of the mature bush has always appeared too large, leaving the inner flower bed too small.

Regarding the boxwood rings, how about removing the inside ring and making the space a children’s garden. The outer ring will still provide the formal boxwood look. The inside garden could have a spiral walkway leading to the fountain or a seating area for childrens tea time. The space between the spirals could be planted with various flowers, mosses and “stepables” for aromas. The walkway could have a hopscotch game imprinted in one area. There are so many fun options for a space like this and it gives the children their own special play area. It might be a good compromise for your family. Love your channel, thanks for all you do!

For a "free" pineapple plant: Cut the top off of a fresh pineapple (grocery store kind) and set in the top of a pot filled with potting soil. Water in. Do not overwater, just occasionally. FULL SUN is great, but very warm temp (85 degrees is good) is critical. 2 years or so before you will have a pineapple, but growing it is SO MUCH FUN! They get HUGE!

Just a thought. For the back formal garden, have you considered wrapping the two outer urns with smaller boxwood hedges to match the boxwood formation that’s already there, with all the grass ripped out and all the flowerbeds with all the plants, with a gravel pathway lined with bricks to tie in with the driveway? Just hate to see the boxwood formation go, but I’m sure it’ll be beautiful whatever you decide either way! I’m sure we are all encouraging you to do what you want to do in your own space and we are sooo excited to see it all develop! Thanks for bringing us along for your exciting journey.

There are terracotta saucers that look unglazed but which are actually waterproof. Here in the Netherlands they're sold under the Elho brand which I have spotted in the background of your videos too (I think it was in a big box store like home goods/sense). Anyways, if you ever see some unglazed Elho saucers, check the bottom if they're marked as waterproof.

Hey Laura! I love the circular boxwoods in the back garden, please don't remove them! Maybe cut new horizontal openings in the hedge, and plant some new boxwoods to fill in the openings that are facing the driveway. When you're looking down along the new back garden, you'll have an opening in the box hedge and can see whatever new beautiful fountain you put there. I think that would be a good compromise and would draw your eye down along the new garden. It would be a shame to take out a unique garden feature like that! Another option would be to still add new openings on the sides, and widen the original opening facing the drive. Then you can put your Gothic arbor there. You would be able to grow some climbing roses to soften all that hedging. It would be beautiful! Whatever you end up doing is going to be great, even if removing it feels best! We trust you!

Near the camper you shoud switch the evergreen and the birch tree. You want the evergreen to screen the camper and you want a green backdrop to the bare trunks of the birch tree. Do it before they get established. It’s bugging me no end. The boxwoods are beautiful but don’t go with the more natural design you are creating. Maybe you can incorporate them as separate shrubs in the new beds? #teamaaron

Hi Laura - I love watching the transformation of the back formal garden! Regarding the circular boxwood hedge, why not compromise by taking out some of the boxwood to create a center path through it (parellel to the back fence). Have you considered removing only half of the formal boxwood hedge in the back garden? Either the inside or outside ring around the fountain.

This is a very good idea. Leave the ring fits the scale of the area. It would be the perfect contrast to the mixed border, keeping the structure and formality that Laura loves.

Oh ~ please keep the boxwood hedge around the fountain! It is so glorious!! I love all the trees you are planting in that area, and can't wait to see what perennials you decide to add to the beds!! I agree with Julie F who commented below - I could seriously watch your videos ALL DAY LONG!!! So inspiring....

Laura so relieved to see you potting up the pineapple plant into a heavier pot. Last year we got 4 of these into our garden centre where I work. They all had small pineapples about the size of an egg. They were in plastic pots and were a tad top heavy! Over a couple of weeks 3 of them got nudged by staff watering them, and tipped over, breaking the pineapple off each one every time! And a customer bought the last one. Every time they come in on a delivery now, it stresses me out, putting them on display. Terracotta pots are a must for these plants! Good move!

I love how you have layered the trees in this area! I am deciding on the same types of things in my yard. So fun to see how it's coming together!

Hi guys! Could you create sort of a potager garden with the existing boxwood circle?? That may work out beautifully... Just seems so terrible to dismantle such a beautiful, mature vignette...love love to begin my day with you. Thanks SO much!

Just rewatched your trimming the birch tree with Aaron! Amazed at the view from the roof! So much change in a year..in garden and family! What a view you will have from your balcony..so beautiful..especially the Hartley! So excited to see tha view once your plans take place! It would be fun to see a timeline video of ALL the changes of your evolved garden! It would be a chore..but a good history to refer to! So glad you are rerouting water..electric..it will be sooo worth the mess! Really torn about removing the hedge..I know I was shocked at how much removing the arbor..fence! It made such a good difference to opening up that space! Lol..like removing the birch that wasn't doing so well! Whatever you choose will be good..excited to see the result!❤

We are such a 'throw away' society. Tear it out, throw it away and start something new. A great gardener would find a way to work with those boxwoods and honor the efforts of the previous gardener.

The boxwood circle - maybe a path through it the other direction so there's better flow? It's so well established and a cool feature! I vote the compromise route, but I get that it might be simpler or easier without it. Whatever you decide, we trust you and we'll be excited to see the beauty of this area down the road.
