Planting Heat Tolerant Southgate® Rhododendrons - In this video I introduce and plant three Southgate® Rhododendrons from the Southern Living Plant Collection. These are new varieties that were selected for heat tolerance and a very compact habit. There are a lot of varieties with different color flowers and sizes in this Rhododendron collection. They flower in late spring with large clusters that attract pollinators.

Any suggestions for flowering evergreens that can take full all day sun? Im wanting to redo my front yard gardens and fit some pretty evergreens but my front yard is south/ south west facing and lots of stuff cant take the heat.

Hi i live in Omaha NE which falls in zone 5. im looking for heat tolerant Rhododendrons. Can you suggest some names.

Is it OK to cut back a oak leaf hydrangea now in zone 8?

They bloom on old growth so they are best pruned lightly after they flower. You can clean them up and deadhead them but not much more right now.

Would these be good for screening up against a chain link fence? I have some camellias and would like to fill in some spaces with these possibly. Most of the Southgate say 4-5 ft it looks like. How many years would it take if planting 3 gallons?

It would be a good choice, but slow growing. 6" a year maybe

Hello JImMy Bermuda Lawn is covered with Earthworm Castings any suggestions for suppressing the worm in the soil?

I think you have a normal amount of worms, but they are struggling with the rainfall and coming to the surface. Their numbers have probably been greatly reduced. Good fertilizer once you mow them.

Is it true that rhododendrons take break from flowering every other year ? last year i had no flowers but i have tons of flowers buds this year , thank you Jim for the wonderful video .

They should bloom every year, but most likely last January was awful and then it warmed up and then late freezes again probably did the buds in. Just a guess, but last winter was really something.

Where do you get your pine bark soil conditioner? It looks more fine/broken down than the orange bags of pine bark soil conditioner you get at Home Depot.

Sean Hickey Try you local landscape supplier. If you live in the Triangle or Piedmont areas of NC you can get it from Wallace Farms.

Wallace farms is near Charlotte, but the garden centers get it from them.
