Join me today and get out of the house or office for some beautiful sunshine and fresh air coming at you from beautiful Southern Illinois! In today's episode I'll take our my Kioti RX7320 and and old Allis Chalmers no till planter and I'll be planting Milo food plot grain sorghum for deer, quail, turkey, and I'll also drill some Milo in my floodable duck impoundment, aka the duck pond! Maybe this will be my year for success with the floodable duck impoundment experiment!? I am always experimenting on our Southern Illinois 150 acre farm with food plots for deer, wildlife food plots, natural and native plantings and reforestation projects, wildlife ponds, watering holes, and so much more. So a few years back I excavated a floodable duck impoundment and set it up so that I could flood it in the fall from our big pond. But so far I have not been successful in the plan working as there was always some kind of failure on my part, or the the wildlife and deer just wrecked the waterfowl food I was trying to grow! Will this year be different? Stay tuned to find out. Thanks for joining me today in the tractor cab and on Memorial Day! Rest assured that this only took a little while and the rest of the day I chilled out on the farm pond beach and got some rest! Here are a couple of our more recent videos that have been very popular!

yeah except for that my entire soybean batch of beans was bad!! Just bought some Eagle beans and replanted the entire thing with beans and corn! Hopefully the NEW combo will be enough to try to outrun the 4 legged critters so that at least a couple acres of the 10 will produce some grains!

That’s how you plant it Kap! Excited to see how this goes. Also for the sunflowers. Man the turkey and quail are gonna love you this year. This will be your best planting season yet I bet.

Hopefully the duck pond takes off this year 🙏. Will you be doing any duck hunting?

Not sure on the duck hunting. While I do miss the action, if I managed to get ducks on our property I likely won't hunt, rather just enjoy the visits and the sights and sounds of them! Guess I'm getting old-er! LOL

Another great video Do you have a drain valve on the duck pond Was wondering how you drain the water out after you have flooded it

Thank you. I have an 8 inch pipe installed at the bottom of the plot that keeps it drained all year until I use an 8" hd balloon to flood it out. It is a constant learning curve, experiment and work in progress! Thanks

You hadn't mentioned the duck pond for awhile, I was wondering if you were going to plant it this year.

Your sure on top of everything this year Kap. Normally you’re fighting wet ground when you plant, and then drought right after you’ve planted. Hope you have a bumper crop this year. Did that wild rice you planted a few years back in the lower pond ever produce anything?

I'm going to really try to stay on top this year, but I still can't fight the wildlife damages! No rice ever came up, that was a shame, would have been a great rice pond!
