Thanks to our growing Patreon community, we are able to cover the cost of this weeks wood chipper rental!
100% of the patreon funding goes directly toward renovating The Chateau de Lesigny!
Special thanks to our dear Patrons: Jesse, Bernadette, Theo, and Morgan for your outstanding support of this Beau Chateau!
You can help support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community and gain access to exclusive videos, updates and more!
Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we make more progress in renovating the original chateau gardens. We meet with a local organic fruit tree specialist who provides us with some answers to our gardening questions and we plant the first trees in our garden to replicate the style that once existed 400 years ago...
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

Wow, this garden will be a hallmark of planning. As I heard it, you would like beauty, symmetry, variety, yield, and relative uniqueness, in a configuration which complements and optimizes the Chateau Garden's layout. Your local nursery owner is a Godsend; imagine how many technical errors he'll ensure you avoid, based on his knowledge. Think of the ongoing assistance he'll be able to provide you with pests, harvesting scheduling, fertilizing, etc. Just his advice on an electric fence to keep out the wild boars and the essential oils to keep out the deer will save you from untold losses and despair. He and his wife should be permanently included on your invitation list for important events at the chateau going forward.

Hi, I came there because of the thumbnail. What a great surprise it was. I lived the first 21 years of my life in Lesigny, my mother still live there now. Back in the days she even had a dancing school and sport shop in the village from 1975 to 1995 then she moved to L'Oree. This brought up lots of memories of when we were young and trying to go secretly fishing carps in the moat , to be chased away by the dogs of the previous owner. Later in the 90's my father knew the owner and I went to visit a the Chateau with him (legally this time). I'm now currently living in Thailand since 17 years, it was very refreshing and great to see what you are doing with passion. You have a new subscriber. Thanks you

If you have a lot to plant you may want to consider using a drill and auger to dig the holes. I have not used it myself but have seen it on KZfaq on Garden Answer. It's a US family that owns a nursery and uses various sizes of augers for planting bulbs, bushes, etc. It makes quick work of things. You may save yourself a tonne of time and energy! Good luck!

I simple love the realisim that you two convey into keeping a love alive. Your humble approach to doing this is greatly appreciated. You have your youth, you're using it wisely. Remember 1%, a day, is better than 0%. That's what I keep in mind as I tackle only an acre, all by myself. I'm soooooo excited about the advancements that will be made. I am sadden about the once a week video, but I know what it's like to have to juggle many tasks. The important thing is to have fun as you unearth buried treasures! Have you thought about using a small excavator to take the top layer off the garden soil and grass? As the drone flies over, it gives the amazing views with the edges you guys dug, and a small digger may help to uncover the cobbles too. The tree guy was fascinating! I planted our first apple tree last month. Hope it will do ok. I have a beautiful “ biggareaux” cherry tree that gives us so much fruit. ( late frosts not withstanding) The blossom makes you feel like you are in a fairytale. Climbing up into it’s leafy branches at the end of May beginning of June under a beautiful blue spring sky to pick the bunches of juicy shiny red fruit is such a joyful experience. It is such therapy for the soul. The fruit freezes well and now in the darker months we enjoy hearty warming cherry crumble. Fruit trees are the best way to use your money ever.

Loving the progress of the garden restoration. I just hope you didn’t plant the cypresses too deep. Watch to see how to water sits in the well that you created around the base. If water collects and gathers at the base of the tree it could kill it. Easy fix. Just pull the tree out and put more soil in the bottom and then replant making sure the rootball of the tree sits elevated from the native soil by about an inch or so. Remember that the soil that you back fill into the hole needs to be packed tight around the rootball. Good luck! ❤️😊

Have you thought of espaliered fruit trees. They look beautiful. Where your terrace is in the garden, how about a beautiful pergola. Or the pergola at one end of the garden where you have unearthed the curved part of your grass. Enjoying seeing the unveiling of your lovely garden. Love your channel.
