I planted a peony last year and noticed it coming back this year! I’m so excited! My great grandmother planted her peonies between 1907-1920 and they are STILL coming back every spring.

Our peonies have been transplanted from parent's house 50+years & then transplanted to each house we've called home & there they've thrived. Now I think a splitting would help as they are enormous clumps.

My grandma was my inspiration for gardening. I didn’t realize it when I was young and stupid and would mow her lawn and wasn’t careful around her peonies. I made up for it though. I have about 20 varieties now. Thanks grandma!😊 I hope you’re looking down every summer!

🌸 🌿These are really tough and hardy plants. My Mom has a peony that she started from her Grandmother’s peony. Mom planted hers in the ‘80s. The original peony is close to if not over 100 years old now and still blooming. Amazing “old-timey” plants. Here in Tennessee, you can see these blooming in fields that were next to homesteads that are long gone. 🌸🌿

Hi Laura ! I’ve been gardening for 52 years. I love your videos your family and how you so generously share all that you do. I am always amazed at your knowledge and your passion for the same things I’ve loved all my life. It’s getting more and more difficult to get down to care for my gardens but watching you in your beautiful youth get right into it, every morning I’m refreshed to get back out there again. I’m passionate about watching your videos and I really hope you continue to create them so I can vicariously enjoy you and your gardens in my declining years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Like many of your viewers, I love peonies as well. I have a long row of them, mixed colors, along my driveway and across the front of the yard. They are so gorgeous when they are in bloom! I salvaged some of the tubers when an old house was being torn down and some others a friend was removing from her old house yard. They were very old when I got them and I have had them for over 20 years and moved them 3 times as I have moved houses. If I have to go, they’re coming with me! I have the grid type supports I got at the dollar store probably 10 years ago.

That coral one you planted looks very similar to my favorite, 'Paula Faye." And I saw what you did, Laura. @@donnamarie4443 I would try a local garden center. More likely to have Peonies than big box stores

This is a very helpful video! We just purchased three new peony plants, so it is timely, as well. I am pleased to learn about the grids. I "inherited" peonies when we moved to this colder climate (in our prior, warmer climate I grew gorgeous roses), so I did not know how to stake them. I knew nothing about peonies, but soon discovered that they are hardy and bloom like crazy, but in contrast to roses, they only bloom once. Hence, we decided to grow more to make up for that. :) You make the process of planting peonies look very doable. Thank you!

I planted peonies in bulbs, but now I don’t think they’ll have enough sun. But they are truly gorgeous. It was my wedding flower ☺️

@Environemtalism Oh, move them if you can to more sun. I planted them when I first started gardening and thought that sun bent around corners (or something??!). They didn't really do anything. I eventually pulled them out but I wish I'd moved them to a sunnier spot.

Have you done a video that addresses understanding zones? I get that the lower number refers to cold hardiness but I don’t understand the limitation of the higher number. I would love some help understanding zones...

D Celiceo some plants need a certain number of weeks with cold temperature to survive and by perennials. That is why there is a higher number on plant tags. I hope it helps!

We used to have a Peony plant at our old house. When we sold it and moved here it got transplanted. It grew wonderfully for 25 years. This spring I had to have the area where they grew dug up...we had roots from other bushes in our weeping tiles...which caused a ground water flood in our basement. I forgot to dig up some of the tubers. I guess they were distroyed in the process. My Hosta survived. I'd like to get another Peony plant for the front garden this fall. Thanks for the information about them. Your garden looks beautiful. 👏

Thank you so much Laura for the helpful tips on peonies, I love them, especially the first type you showed us. I had never seen that flat type of cage before that’s great. Can peonies thrive in a container? Thank you so much.

Such a lovely color of pink. This must be the year of the peonies...seems everyone is growing them. I have always loved peonies but had no idea they were so easy to grow. We may be moving in a few months. Can I grow them in planters until next year? 💚🌸💗

Should work. I have kept a peony in my garage over winter until I decided where to plant it permanently. Just when I think this is the year it died I'm rewarded with stems. I've finally figured out where I'll plant it and even though it's skimpy, I have fait it will flourish...with loving care. I've also kept the growers' can with the peony in it in the ground until I'm ready to plant it permanently.
