I enjoy your videos. I have a few Olivers myself but no ground to farm any more. I have a 1650 tricycle front a 1355 wide fron and an 1855 wide front with a cab on it. The 1355 and 1855 are diesels and 1650 is a gasser. My granddad bought the 1355 and the 1650 new in Ohio. They are in Wyoming now. Love Oliver tractors!!

You are proving that you don't have to go in hock to buy the latest and greatest to farm effectively. A lesson for those starting and the old hands.

I would add the 8700 to the list of game changing equipment purchases. Cutting harvest time down is a huge advantage. Glad to see the planter working flawlessly. Your hard work and perseverance definitely paid off.

I totally agree with you the best thing is to start at the bottom and work your way up the latter. Otherwise you'll never appreciate what you have. My brother and I have had to do the same in our farming operation as well.
@stephenfonder7409
@stephenfonder7409 Жыл бұрын
@@markjones-nb5fh yes I can agree with that as well. We are the 4th generation on our farm and we thurly appreciate what each generation that came before us did, so I realize we didn't start from scratch either. However we didn't start with brand new equipment. We have a neighbor who is taking over his grandfather's operation. They run only new stuff and farm 15k acres, and I don't think he knows for a moment what it is like to start at the bottom.

Good to see things going smoothly for you. I'm one of those people who thinks good equipment and the right tech(not neccessarly more tech) will get you further than newest tractors will. I also say that having even a basic GPS guidance system is a good thing. Hope the rest of the planting season goes well for you.

All the maintenance that you did last year and this year on the planter made it very dependable. Curious of how much that planter went for brand new. When I was a kid I remember dad had a two-row planter and then later he got a 4 row Oliver planter. I think those planters were pretty new on the market when we left the farm. Thanks Michael

I totally understand the planter sentiment. We had a Deere 1240 growing up, the. A White 4 row wide tool bar with kinze units to a 7200 6 row narrow to our current 1750 Deere. Going from that 1240 to the White that had a fertilizer auger. We thought we were big timing cuz we didn't have to bucket fertilizer anymore
@Oliver66FarmBoy

Going from dry to liquid fertilizer is like going from the Stone Age to the space age.

I'm not one of those people that try to find something to bitch about in your video's, but I will bring up your comparison of a yugo and your old planter, that planter you have will work great for replant situations, as for the yugo there's a good reason they dissapeared in the 80s, they were junk. Be safe :)
@Oliver66FarmBoy
@Oliver66FarmBoy Жыл бұрын
It sucks for replant unless you plan on working ground ahead of it. Not heavy enough to hold the row units in the ground and can’t close the seed trench.

Question from a non farmer,why are end rows more time consuming to plant and harvest?
@bandyfarms6155
@bandyfarms6155 Жыл бұрын
Because they are shorter and a lot more time turning around. Most of the time the end rows is when you dial your planter or combine in so more time consuming also.
