Yappin' dogs! When I was building up my raised beds the first year the lady next door had five, FIVE Yorkie yappers that lined up right on the fence. After a few hours of work with shovels and wheelbarrows and dogs, it took three days for my humor to get back to normal. These days she has two yappers and two larger ones that like to bark and what passes by. So....just now in today's mail, after five and a half years of dogs (and I love dogs, I had a Rottie for 13 years and a slew of farm dogs before that) I just received an automatic, ultrasound bark deterrent. Three setting levels. I hope they are high, higher and painful. Just started a couple of your pelleted lettuce varieties yesterday, also set out some spinach, Swiss chard and pak choi. Onions getting closer to setting out also. Feeling good about this coming year!!

Hey Greg, Just wanted to say how much I appreciate and Trust your knowledge on Gardening. Being raised on a farm myself, I had a lot of basic understanding on how plants grow. But you have taught we so many things that I didn't know, so Thank you! Spoke with a young gardner yesterday, and she ask me have I ever heard of Hoss Products. I told her about your show and assured her that needed to listen to what y'all had to say and she could Trust what you sell Products.

How did the Bella Rossa and snapped grow?
@trev5.566
@trev5.566 8 ай бұрын
@@kevinwoodrum9354 I didn’t have a good seed starting setup, so it didn’t go as planned. The seeds germinated well, but I guess I planted some of them too soon. I only planted like 4 of each. My red snappers died, but I had some Bella rosas that made it and they did great. We had an incredibly hot summer with many days over 105 but I still got lots of good tomatoes. And my Celebrities and Mountain Prides from the big box store also did well. The Bella rosas were more consistent, did not split as much, and were prettier than the others. I think the mountain prizes were darker red, and the celebrities were bigger. So it could have gone better with the red snappers, but it went very well considering it was my first time starting seeds. I’ve got some broccoli and carrots growing now and ive got a sweet potato casserole with my home grown sweet potatoes planned for Thanksgiving 😎

It's amazing how many different varieties of tomato there are. I planted 16 different kinds.. just 4 each though. I'm doing a majority of yellow ones.. lower acid is my thing. If I get 50% germination I'll be happy with it. I went with: brandywine yellow, yellow pear, golden queen, marglobe, sunray, jubilee, Kellogg breakfast, chef's choice orange, Amish paste, Cherokee purple, rainbow cherry, indigo rose, celebrity, beefsteak and sweet millions. To me, it seems a hair shady that "days to maturity" isn't from the planting date..some of us direct sew as much as possible which always makes the days wrong.

My fav is your Bella Rosa determinant hybrid tomatoes. Disease resistant, caterpillar resistant, aggressive grower, very productive and very easy to manage especially during the hottest times of the summer. It's a plant and forget type. The tomatoes are just the right size....not too big and not too small. One tomato can fill two sandwiches with minor waste and no refrigeration. And the taste is so delicious too.

Hey Greg, since you were speaking about the "Crimson gene" in tomatoes, I was wondering if you have ever tried growing the Giant Crimson Tomato that Luke over at MI Gardener found and brought back from EXTINCTION! He and his wife found a packet inside a shadow box at an antique shop just about 3 or so years ago. They bought it, researched about it and found out it had gone extinct. They planted the whole pack, seemed like only 3 or 4 of them grew a plant but in the end only 1 or 2 plants survived. They've been growing them out to repopulate them ever since. Currently they are sold out, but I have bought like 3 packs of them. They're listed as rare, and they're are maybe 5 seeds in the packet of this variety, and they have a 2 pack cap per order on it, but I'm excited to grow them this year. I even sold a packet to a lady in my best friend's family so they could raise them out. Have you tried growing any of these?

What would cause some of my tomato seedlings under lights to have twisted new limbs in the top of the little plants? I sprayed them last night with Fruit Tree Spray in case its bugs and Complete Disease Control and this morning I cut off the rest of the curled limbs. I had it happen last year, I just don't remember how it went. I had a terrible year with them and just gave up and pulled them all up. Could have been bugs, virus, or even that they didn't like that I tried to grow them in straw bales thinking I could keep them off the ground. This time I am starting early and being more diligent with my spray program. Thing is, they weren't outside yet. Will crowding in the seed tray cause the twisting, or possibly too much 20-20-20? I transplanted them two days ago and started putting them outside some. Back under lights this morning at 4 which is when I am up doing all my inside stuff, lol, and trimmed all those limbs. Not all the plants affected, just a very few of 24. Thanks, Jenny

When you're talking about tomatoes, what do you mean by determinant and indeterminate? I know what they are when you're talkin about potatoes, but not when you're talkin about tomatoes.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss Жыл бұрын
Determinate tomato plants are smaller and grow like a bush. They usually grow up to five feet tall, so they are perfect for a small garden or container gardening. Indeterminate tomato plants have a more vine-like structure and can grow up to 8-10 feet tall.
