Despite it being a plant not an animal its quite cruel. Plants will adapt if necessary but their natural conformation is still the natural one... doing this just for the sake of aesthetics is brutal. Note before any replies come, I am a botanist and biologist who is working on a paper about bonsai reversal. It's also noteworthy to look into the mechanisms of plant stress.

Holy guacamole, look at those avocado seeds! When it comes to seeds, I have so much fun trying the different growing methods! After years of experimenting with different methods, I think I finally found the best way… just grab a seed, peel the skin after soaking in warm water, and plop it right in to a container (pointy side up). Now we’re not growing to bare fruit (most store bought avocados will never bare fruit) but it’s fun to grow a new plants.

They actually resprout really well from chopping while still connected to the seed, as it gives it most of what it needs until it falls off. It also give the trunk good taper if you cut it and let a branch take over as the main trunk and repeat the process

Hi Krystal, you have been part of making history with my family 🎉. Growing up, my mama always had avocado seeds with toothpics hanging on a glass of water. Never have I ever seen anything grow. Some 40 years. Nothing. I used your method with 5 avocado seeds. I had forgotten about them again after throwing 2 away, and i was reminded when I saw this video again 😂. I found 2 bags, and they have rooted, and one had a stem!! I can not find the 3rd bag yet. Poor thing. Pray I find it before it turns into a full-blown tree in the house 😂. I enjoy you and your videos. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face and lifting me up when I am down. Keep making a difference. Hugs

I have three avocado trees at my home (after SO MANY attempts!), two around meter high and one half. I’m so proud of them, because I tried so many times and how many seeds I thrown away after they sprout first leaves (they just didn’t want to assimilate I guess)… it’s challenging to keep them alive, healthy and without pests (even when you keep them at home). I also gave three little trees away and it makes me happy to share that hard grown joy.

So I had two avocado trees and upon the advice of a friend I chopped one of them like halfway through and the other one at the very top to still have some leaves but see if it branches out. The first one just grew a new stem just as tall as the original and the second just got a single new branch and it continued growing However I had a third seed and while it was still in water (literally it was like half inch tall ) the top got burned due to the heat we had in the summer so I chopped it that one has multiple stems growing from the same seed. All my hope lies with that one.

@@monareese5307 not yet, and they'll be 4 next spring. A lot of fruit trees will only start producing once they're root bound, because their first priority is their own growth. Squirrels are the enemy in my yard. After 4 months of finally growing my avocado seed in water/toothpick method, i decided it was time to introduce it to soil. I kept the soil very moist so the seed is not shocked from the changes of its environment. After 1 week, it was still doing great and even started some new baby leaves. However the next day, i came out to water it and all i saw was the leafy stalk but no seed. I looked everywhere and finally found a half eaten seed. 😢 Darn thieving squirrel dug the seed. So back to square one and starting out with the soil method and its inside at the window where its safe til it has a thick trunk so no more thieving squirrels will get after it.
