Plastic Pyrolysis successful test!

Testing a recently refurbished plastic pyrolysis unit by converting 3 year old plastic waste into crude pyrolysis oil, which can be used as Heavy Fuel Oil in local industries. We ran the unit on wood fuel, and added a blower to increase airflow. The condenser is water cooled using galvanised steel incased in stainless steel jacket.
The goal of this test is to create a viable solution to the plastic waste problem in @zambia as well as mitigate the rising cost of imported petroleum by producing a cheap #fuel .
eventually we can grow woody crops to use as pyro material to produce crude pyro oil and sustainable charcoal #pyrolysis #zambia

You know you can use the exhaust gasses (flammable gas given off at the end) that do not condense to power the burner so you can safe manual effort on putting wood in and just redirect the gasses into the flame

Yeah, I did this and it saved me a lot of energy, plus its a good indicator that the system is done burning, when there is no more gas to burn.

Great job Alex. Your gasket was leaking. What material do you recommend for gasket ?

You can use the corking gasket used for car engines

Good job but I need to make afew obvious observations. 1) you have far too less gauges. Apart from the temperature gauge on the reactor, you need atleast two more temperature gauges on other stations on the system. 2) you need atleast 3 pressure gauges, one on the reactor and atleast two more on different stations on the system. 3) looks like you put this up hurriedly. I'd advice you to draw a flow diagram of the system, check for critical areas which needs close monitoring and do adjustments on them. Anyway, good trial, I'm a medical doctor but im intrested in all things science. I'm also intrested in system analysis and i can already identify afew areas in your system that can pause grave danger to your operators.

@@mutobangoma2099 do a well detailed drawing of how the system should flow. Do all the calculations for the pressures and temperatures expected at various stages. These are called critical points. Critical points will guide you on where to put the gauges to monitor those temperatures and pressures. Once you're able to identify critical points note down the parameters to be maintained to ensure safety and consistent end results. Good temperature monitoring will ensure consistent quantities and quality end product. Good pressure monitoring will reduce the risk of a blow out which can cause loss of life and limb.

Oh Cammon they made it with Spits and Stitches...!!! The Majority of the People throw Plastic in Water Even in western Countries...! At least they recycle.

@@mutobangoma2099 You could heating the Boiler with concentrated Solar, it would drastically reduce need of Combustible. You could use a mechanical Press in order to Increase the Pressure at which Plastic is Heated and Filtering its Lighter Outputs with a Carbon Felt Right Outside a Mechanical Valve by Hand turning the Mechanism increasing Pressure while Melting... As in a Sort of Reverse Osmosis... So you could more easily Separate the Different Groups of Hydrocarbons and Leave in the boiler the most heavy Polymers.. Also, you could use the Used Oil you said in other videos you regroup from Local Farmers for making soap and utilising the Parts which are Too much Dirty for Soap Production, Boiling those with Methanol for 2 Hours while mixing in a Closed environment and You would have Biodiesel. With it you could "cut" the Crude Oil you produce now with Pyrolysis and Having a much Higher Yield. The Bioproducts of Mixing Methanol and Oil is Biodiesel and Glicerine... With the Job you have you can Separate those [Quite simple because they have different Densities and Viscosities] Using Glicerine for Soap and Biodiesel for Making a More Carbon Neutral Clean Biodiesel along the One you produce with Pyrolysis. You should check in with Robert Murray from UK, he is a Old Retired Material Chemist which used to working in the Battery Sector... He make Really Useful, Incredibly Simple and Explicative Videos about Many Things. For someone which have a Carbon Neutral Agenda and Practical Skills like you could benefit more than me... I am not Good At Making Things simply Putting.
