When trying to measure methane produced by biological activity in sea water, Sarah-Jeanne Royer found with her colleagues that the plastic bottles holding the samples were a bigger source of this gas with powerful greenhouse effect. Sarah-Jeanne works at developing a better understanding of the processes of plastic degradation and fragmentation, and its future in the ocean... but also at convincing the leaders to use scientific data to develop better laws to reduce the production and consumption of plastics / En essayant de mesurer le méthane produit par l'activité biologique dans l'eau de mer, Sarah-Jeanne Royer a constaté avec ses collègues que les bouteilles en plastique contenant les échantillons constituaient une source plus importante de ce gaz à effet de serre puissant.

It's very true, people will understand the problem with plastic use It's too late and critical. We have to be aware of people's ecological effect of use of plastic. Globle temp. Increasing every year. If we will not avoid wrong and unnecessary use of plastic, we will be responsible for the natural disaster and We are not far away from it.

We could issue a penalty against the production of plastic, like the carbon tax, and then issue certificates for contributing to cleaning the ocean. The penalties would cause the price of the product to go up and the certificates would have the potential to not only offset the penalties but also if enough clean-up is done certificates could allow the product to be sold at a lower price for the same profit?

Excellent Speech on Plastics and finding a solution. We have a local initiative "Menos Plastic es Fantastico" in Mahahual/Costa Maya where masses of plastic debris wash up on our coastline daily. We offer beach clean ups & awareness of the danger of single use plastics on our local environment as it is also entering our food chain. We must also sanction the production of single use plastics!

we could always eject it into space.........just kidding. Humans learn, there is hope, we discovered how to make plastic, we'll fix this problem, because if we do not, there is no hope for our planet and species.
