Plant a living arborvitae privacy fence! Arborvitae, or ‘arbs’ for short, prefer to be planted in full sun areas that receive 6+ hours of sun per day. However, several varieties can thrive in partial sun areas that get 4-6 hours of sun per day. Most varieties do not like shady conditions; the more sun they get, the happier they will be. Lastly, be sure the area where they are planted does not have standing water during the season; arbs do not like having wet feet.

They grow 12’-15’ tall and you do not want to prune them. If you cut the tops they start to grow sideways in odd shapes. I have been growing these for about 5 years now. They are pretty drought tolerant but the first year keep them watered and in severe drought get them some water and they will look nice and plump.

@@Randy58-zn4ez Thanks! I've been looking into a different tree as well. I know it's called the little soldier, I can't remember its official name, sorry. So you know this tree? It's used as a privacy hedge as well. I think its name may be Williams Fleming, maybe.?.

Emerald green, yes. Green giant, the deer usually avoid. However, if a deer is hungry enough it will eat anything. That’s why labels on nursery plants will say “deer resistant” and not “deer proof”

I love privacy trees. Hav a homestead with fire wood stack hand well green house goats chickens barn etc. And my new stupid yankee neighbors cut down all kinds of trees up the whole property line and then talked to me and said they never knew i had all that. I was not happy and planted a whole bunch of these mfs i know he mad. Ain't tryna hav mf heads always looking at me and my crib I wanna chill I know he hates the large bushes by the front that block our house from his.
