Great Stuff 👍👍 I grew up with old southern rock, Outlaws, CDB, MTB, early Eagles, Pure Prairie League etc. I seriously miss this kind of music. No one around me seems to want to play this stuff in a band. They have no clue what they are missing. Thank you for this post, it brightened my day 😀

Good to hear from you Thomas. A lot of my earliest rock guitar influence came from southern bands as well as British Invasion blues based bands. Great stuff 🎸🙏😎

You are totally awesome! I’m 67 and have been playing seriously for over five years and enjoy taking lessons on KZfaq. I have learned so much piecing it all together like you said. Everything is blues based and that’s fine but this kinda southern country rock is what I like the most. Few teach it actually, or at least few that I’ve seen. Thanks so much for your time and effort. You’re very inspiring and I look forward to catching up and seeing all your vids!!

Totally appreciate the comments at the end essentially on how to mentally approach the guitar journey. The metaphor of strolling through the forest and picking different flowers is perfect and I sometimes feel like I should take a more structured/disciplined approach, but it’s good to know that the wandering method works too

Thanks so much Dave. Your videos are really awesome, your words of wisdom and encouragement have made more of a difference in playing than anything else really. It does set you apart, your voice is calming and I get motivation from knowing you understand where I’m at on my guitar journey. I’m 67 btw and have been playing off and on since a teenager. Now that I’ve retired two years ago I play full time. Watching my favorite KZfaq teachers and learning from each lesson is my therapy. I really appreciate your rock and southern taste as 99% of folks are strictly blues based, which I get, but love the country rock genre. Thanks!! I’m a PATREON for life.

Thanks man! Great to hear from you and thanks for the support. I do love that southern sound along with a lot of blues and British Invasion. Isn’t KZfaq great? Man if we’d had this back in the day, I’m telling ya lol. Looking forward to continuing to work on the guitar business together. Hope to hear from you again soon 🙏😎🎸

I was struggling a bit on this, trying to fit the licks into a pattern, until I realized it was major pentatonic for the most part. Then it all started to click. I'm also starting to see similarities in different guitarists solos, how they use the licks in their own style. That lick at about 15:30 I've seen in "Nighttrain" (GNR), and I've seen the next lick in the "Nighttrain" solo in Jason Isbell's "Overseas" solo. And obviously everyone uses that Chuck Berry lick. Great stuff.

Great to hear from you and so cool that you are seeing all of the connections to these moves in popular songs. We all use a lot of the same stuff but everybody does it a little different 😎🤟🎸🔥
