Instead of trying to switch to game mode really quickly and possibly messing it up, I suggest putting Steam in big picture mode, and then switching into game mode. Big picture mode has full controller support.

You have to have good internet and your screen resolution needs to be the same as t.v

May 2020 update: Is a lot smoother to setup now, it literally took me 3 clicks to get it working, gotta do more testing as I haven't run any games but I managed to connect it painlessly even using the extend screen mode in windows, I'll edit the comment as I experiment with it Edit 1: latency is great, at least on my 150Mb connection, Xbox is wired and PC streams on 5ghz, controller and mouse mode also gives no issues, I haven't learned all the mouse mode short cuts but they are there, one issue tho, PC doesn't recognize 2 separate inputs from 2 controllers one overrides the other, however if you connect one of the controllers to the PC via Bluetooth this problem gets resolved, seems like the kinda thing Microsoft could fix if we insist about it, in general it works great, if you have an Xbox and are thinking of buying a steam link maybe you shouldn't, altho the steam link would be more portable and be able to directly support multiple controllers, it definitely makes the Xbox one a great allie (see what I did there) to PC gaming

For people using a series X, you need to enable the "use PC input" option in windows. Or else the cursor and gamepad option won't work properly. Just discovered that. Though I was playing hogwarts legacy using this method and it was weird. The moment i stopped touching the xbox gamepad, it reverted to PC controls in the game. As soon as I started moving, goes back to gamepad mode...and back to PC mode when I stop touching the pad. Not sure how to fix this. Perhaps pairing a controller with the PC instead might work. Will try later.

Kinda crazy how its the end of 2022 and there still is no easy way to stream PC to Xbox

Help me. If I am searching for devices with my PC , my xbox will not be in the list of connectable devices. My pc has no wifi/bluetooth so only ethernet cable. My xbox is also connected with an ethernet cable.

I'm probably gonna end up using this but, I really wish that microsoft would make stuff like this easier to do. For example, why can't we download steam on the xbox and install the game we have purchased on there, or for all that why not the epic games store as well... you get my point.

Instead of swapping around between keyboard and mouse versus controller if you launch steam in big picture mode it already shows you what games are optimized for controllers on top of being way more accessible

Oommffggg people.. yes you can plug your PC into your TV.. however I am not going to lug my PC from my office set up to my living room.. and while I could just get a compact PC for my living room(or use a laptop) I happen too own an xbox(honestly it was a ha dmedown from a friend) so this works basically as a steam link but it can also play Xbox exclusives.. if you don't own an Xbox or don't care too then I have news for you.. this isn't for you.. however it isn't pointless.. it actually gives my Xbox a better reason to exist because most of my games are on PC.. Now the quality of the app in question is another story..

Do I need bluetooth in order to do this? My pc does not have a bluetooth adapter, and when I do the Windows + P step, my Xbox One does not come up as a device to connect to. Even though I have the Wireless Display app pulled up.

If you have a decent connection then it works very well. I wouldn't recommend playing fast paced games but for your slower paced then it works well. I tested Fall Guys and Postal 4. Both work very well.

I spent hours looking for a guide about how this actually works. The bit I was missing was pressing view and menu together to switch to controller mode. This really isn’t made clear in the app or anywhere else online. Also some wifi adapters won’t let this work such as the asus ac88 even though i can use it to stream steam games to my iPad... Luckily I had a spare 8 year old usb WiFi dongle laying about. It’s nice Microsoft want to allow feature but they have done an awful job at implementing it, it’s not just terrible software it’s the bizarre hardware requirements. This has to have been one of the worst experiences of setting up streaming I have ever had.

Interesting solution for those with an Xbox on the tele and a desktop/tower PC rig. I prefer the plug-the-laptop-into-the-55”-OLED-via-HDMI method myself. No lag or graphic fidelity loss.

A lot of people seem to have the wrong idea about this service. It does *not* let you play Xbox games on the PC _or_ PC games on the Xbox. It is just using either device as a second display. Imagine watching someone play a game on KZfaq/Twitch, it doesn't mean the person is playing the game on your PC or Xbox. It a simply streaming it. There's no hardware improvements. There's no crossplay.

This feature doesn't work with Ethernet because it's a wifi direct feature. You don't even need a router as the devices are connected directly.

Insanely, this doesn’t work if your devices are wired. My gaming PC is wired, and my Xbox is wired. The PC can’t find the Xbox as a wireless display. I did some digging on this, and it’s because the protocol the wireless display app is using only broadcasts discovery information via WiFi! I can enable WiFI on the PC (and retain ethernet), but the Xbox won’t let me enable its WiFi unless I unplug the cable. So incredibly stupid, because a remote display technology like this would work so much better over a hardwired connection.

The only reason I wanted this to work is to play local multiplayer but it doesn't recognise two remotes as separate controllers through the Xbox. Has anyone found a solution to this? (I'm too far away from PC to connect one to the Xbox and one to the PC)

So its using your pc's specs this is the same as a steam link and cheaper, also why own a Xbox when you have games for windows 10.

Hello, so i have a question do you need to connect your xbox to your pc??

Can't get my xbox controller to work...it either works like a surrogate mouse, or doesn't do anything. Taping the 2 menu buttons changes it from "keyboard" to "gamepad", but in gamepad mode the inputs aren't recognized. I want to use my xbox controller but it just isn't working.

So my belief is that the "update" they made was to actually only be used for the wireless adapter that you have to purchase... I tried it all, I made sure my computer and pc were on the same network, I double checked to make sure my xbox could connect to my pc(with the app/works flawlessly). But for what ever reason it refuses to work the other way around, why that is in 2020 who knows.

Sooooo ... whats the point in that? You can as well attach HDMI cable from a PC to TV and you are done. With 0 lag and screen issues.
