Playa Grande is located in the North Pacific in Guanacaste, belonging to the canton of Santa Cruz, there are several options to get there, either from San José, by public transport or vehicle, as well as from Liberia, which is about 68 km away.
It is considered one of the most important nesting sites for leatherback turtles. The local people take pride in protecting these lands for their habitat. The leatherback sea turtle is the largest of the sea turtles, and can be up to 2 meters long and weigh up to 700 kilos.
