First Look at "Falsettos" in Rehearsal

Block as Trina, Andrew Rannells as Whizzer, Tracie Thoms as Dr. Charlotte, Betsy Wolfe as Cordelia, Brandon Uranowitz as Mendel and Anthony Rosenthal as Jason. Here is a look at the cast in rehearsals, performing three songs from the show.

The way Andrew pauses for a moment then becomes desperate when Christian says "I can't help but feeling I failed-" like he shakes his head in disbelief and clasps his hands trying to convince just with a look that that's just NOT the case. This entire youtube clip is PERFECTION.

I love rehearsal videos like this!! You can see how they're all just a *little* unsure of the blocking and character choices, and it's not quite in their bodies yet, a huge difference from the pro shot. I love seeing stuff like that because it shows that even professionals can make mistakes in rehearsals and change things or double back on character choices. Another thing I love is you can see just how much trust there is between the cast. Like in This Had Better Come to a Stop, Christian doesn't restrain himself when he falls into the chair because he knows Brandon is going to catch him, and the physical contact between Andrew and Christian is so easy and gentle and trusting. The way they caress each other and lean into each other is so self assured, with no risks involved, because they both know it's okay.

Who could have known that I would fall in love with that musical. This production was stunning and I'm so grateful for the beautiful cast recording, the wonderful Tony performance (one of the few good things that happened at this year's Tonys...) and the fact that we get to see a filmed version of this!
