I went to Anfield supporting man united, my friend is a scouser and got me a ticket in the kop, the moment we walked through the turnstiles we couldn't hear ourselves speak, the atmosphere was electric, a millions times better than anything at old Trafford, it was so intense i almost forgot who i was supporting, i found myself singing you'll never walk alone holding my scarf above my head until i came to my senses.

Anfield on European nights under the lights is amazing. No other stadium like it. But if we're playing wolves on a Saturday afternoon, the atmosphere is flat. Anfield is up for the big games when it matters, but when we play the smaller teams we're expected to beat, then it's not so good.

@@Ryan-lf1ko I don’t live under a rock. When you said all the good about yourself it doesn’t carry that much appreciation than when you have your rivals admitting it. I’ve been a Liverpool fan since 1984. You can know something but for someone else to admit or testify to what you know or claim to know; the validity of your claim is more legitimized. When a Messi fan praises CR7 people take it seriously than when that very fan says similar thing about Messi.

@@abstraqtphilosophy7357 There are things you may know and claim about yourself to be great; when that same thing is said about you by others; the feeling and pride you get is different than when you alone says it about yourself. That’s the point I’m coming from. The performances I’ve seen and those memorable European nights attested to that. But when rivals know and say what you thought and knew, its impact is far greater than when your rivals or haters say it. Be objective here and take things in context.

"This is Anfield". How many opposing players have looked at that sign and not understood what it really meant until they've heard the Liverpool fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone in full voice. Perhaps they've gone to Anfield and end up on the wrong end of a massive hammering on a European night as the crowd rattle the stadium. How many rival fans who have never visited Anfield have balked at it's supposed reputation, then realised the truth when they finally got to experience it.

And my answer has to be that I was taken to Anfield at 4years old and attended 5-10 matches a year until I was 13 including european games. The electric atmosphere is like indoctrination. It's like anywhere else, big games generate big atmospheres. I've been in the away end at Anfield several times watching my team turn up, get turned over and turned out. But there's no rivalry between us (West Ham) and them and therefore all the noise comes from the away end. That said, when it's under the lights and they're playing in the CL, it does generate a fantastic atmosphere.

I’m a season ticket holder in the main stand (u4 r71 s99) and the atmosphere is nowhere near the level for lesser teams, unless it’s an important game (3pts needed). European games and big/important matches are unique. You have to experience it to know it. If I’m being honest, I think it comes with ours fans egos. Not in a bad way, just most of our match-going fans, have experienced a lot.

-This also doesn’t mean the atmosphere isn’t good for lesser teams. It is, especially when pushing for a win. But most of these games end, 4-0. So it’s not to the level of big/European games.

Absolutely spot on with that mate. Midweek European nights are on a different level to Saturday 3pm against middle of the league teams. But that’s because you have more local people at the game because the foreigners or people who live down south etc can’t get there as easily on a midweek game. A lot of people who go the game on a Saturday are tourists who have got tickets from supporters clubs and all that stuff, but they don’t seem to realise that they have to create the atmosphere, whereas they think the atmosphere is created by other people. That’s my opinion anyway. But when you have a history like we do, then sometimes the Saturday games are less exciting than the European games

For anyone who has ever stood on the Kop - or even been in the ground for the singing of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' it is a spine thingling moment. As a lifelong Red from Bootle it is bordering on the spiritual. A mate from work - a 6' 4" rugby player - unabashedly told me he gets a tear every time he hears it at the ground - particularly when taking his lad. Special. YNWA

I 'm a Swedish supporter of Liverpool, I've been to Anfield and I feel proud over what these people say about the place. Of course there's something about not only Anfield, but the entire town of Liverpool. The people there have created a culture that brought The Beatles to the world and the football club is just amazing. To me Liverpool is a die hard working class city with the values that follows and it reflects on the club. It's no sell out there, it's about sticking together and fight till the ref blows the pipe and the fat lady has sung. I'm not from Liverpool, I'm not even English, but I feel proud over the city and the club. YNWA. ❤

Simply the greatest atmosphere anywhere including Celtic park. White heart lane was intimidating and Upton Park was incredible. I even enjoyed the old Maine Road stadium.

If they ever build a new stadium they should really mimic the way Anfield looks. This is something I don't get of the new stadiums. Why create a whole new look? Just modernize but keep the classic style as much as possible. Emirates for example should've mimicked the Highbury style as much as possible. With the crowd as close to the pitch as possible. But they went for an opposite style. I know that Highbury was a much smaller stadium but they should've kept the style of being close to the pitch intact.
