Casey Jones Facts: He's also a vigilante, just like the Turtles, and like all things in the Turtles, is a parody, this time of the 'guy with themed weapons' trope in comic books, notably The Punisher, using sports equipment instead of typical weaponry. He was noteworthy in that *even Raphael* was concerned about his violence and anger, which was part of his introduction in a Raphael side-story; teaching Raph the importance of restraint. However, he's also shown to have a good heart, accepting and befriending the turtles despite their unusual appearance and nature because he recognizes they're trying to clean up the city.
@JediMB
@JediMB Жыл бұрын
In the 80's cartoon, Casey Jones was completely insane and obsessed with "lawbreakers". The Turtles first encountered him as he was about to beat up a homeless man literally for the crime of being homeless. And, yeah, conceptually he's kind of mix between The Punisher and Sportsmaster.

So... while we're on the topic of cartoons and childhood memories... does anybody else has recollections of cartoons that no one else seems to remember? Here's my list: -wunschpunsch -Mon Colle knights -Shinzo -Shadow Raiders -Action Man -the Beetlejuice cartoon -the Twisted tales of Felix the Cat -Samurai Troopers -Shurato -Heavy gear -Corrector Yui... And those are the ones whose name I remember: there was a Dan Dare CGI show... A catoon about a investigator in Area 51 solving alien stuff with a white haired banshee... a anime about a cave boy with a sentient hammer travelling tbrough time... (I just realized I might be ancient by some standards... but still, it sometimes feels that I dreamed those shows up, until I get internet confirmation that they actually existed... Especially the Felix the Cat cartoon, that one was trippy weird)

-the Beetlejuice cartoon -the Twisted tales of Felix the Cat -Samurai Troopers -Shurato -Heavy gear -Corrector Yui. I remember these. I think I may have the Heavy Gear DVDs... for a time I was collecting the DVDs of tabletop games that had been made into television shows. And I completely understand the feeling of coming into anime and having it be something fresh and different. My first real anime was Robotech, and the idea that characters could actually die was mind-blowing. (When I found Zeta Gundam I was hooked.)

Oh, I LIVE for these kind of video game discussions between Dans. I'm always morbidly curious to find out about how the experience of gamer folks like me, but about a decade older, got into games, anime and the like. Back when these things weren't so readily available, and pretty much all the non 2 bit video games were on Nintendo platforms. And then they grew up with the start of Xbox, PS2 and GameCube? I was like 2-3 years old when the GameCube came out, I literally couldn't play any game more complex than edutainment back then.

Re the "watching cartoons" age thing. In a similar vein, junior year in high school we were reading a short story, and the teacher asked if anyone had read it. One girl sheepishly raised her hand and said she had seen the Wishbone episode on it. It was then discovered that 90% of the class had seen the Wishbone episode on that story.

The bag of cash story reminds me of one time I got a game at a store. I can't remember the game, but I had amassed a bunch of coins in a box (too much to fit in my wallet), so I brought it with me and paid for the game in coins. The cashier was relieved, because they were running out of coins (classic case of prices ending in nines instead of zeroes, so they kept being paid in bills and running out of coins for change). They asked if I would exchange more of my coins for bills, so I counted up the total value of the coins, and exchanged as much of it as I could. It was the one time where I paid for something in coins and got bills back in change.

Dan Jones nice things: Great laugh, humour and art. Always happy to see more Dan Jones on the channel. On the cats hiding, mine has gotten into some spots that I've had to lean around and use my phone to take a photo to check she's there. Some highlights include squeezed partly behind and partly next to the fridge, under the bottom draw of a beside table that was pulled a bit away from the wall so she could get in from the back, and a weird nook behind the stove bench where I never thought a cat would even try to go. They're amazing at hiding when they don't want to be found.

Daniel Jones! You are ABSOLUTELY an integral part of the PlayFrame experience. In addition to all that has been said about your art, streaming and general skill, you bring a wonderfully expressive vibe, an overt joie de vivre that both contrasts with and enhances Floyd's laid-back energy in the most refreshing way. And now with Emmons' sharp wit and dry sarcasm adding another exquisite flavor, all y'all are just a perfectly-crafted cocktail of friendship.

In which Dan Jones and Emmons both talk about their experiences with Danposter Syndrome, and Dan Floyd rules that this is a valid experience for each of them. Speaking of Dan Jones: Pokemon passed me by as a kid: I was a little bit too old for it when it hit, so I never watched the show or played any of the games. My first experience of a Pokemon game was Dan Jones' Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Diamond, which was outstanding!

My grandparents had a cat that they called Funnyface. That wasn't the cat's actual name, but I don't remember what it was because the nickname was what everyone used. I can't remember the first game I bought with my own money, but I do remember the first game that was given to me. Up until that point all the games I played were my brother's that he let me play. Ratchet:Gladiator (Deadlocked in the US) on PS2 I couldn't play it for a week because it was a get well soon present for breaking my pinky finger after my Grandad accidentally trod on it while I was being tickled by my cousin. I suppose it worked because I was desperate to get well soon and play it, lol. Still love that game.

Cartoons of roughly the 2010s give or take are just so much better than basically anything that came before, it's crazy how much things improved. And it's heartbreaking how badly these shows and their creators are commonly being disrespected by the companies that fund them. It kinda feels like we're at the end of a golden era right now, destroyed by tons of destructive acquisitions or clownish CEOs etc. Maybe, now that the new Disney CEO is the old Disney CEO, things might turn around again? I guess we'll see. But for many great shows it's already too late now. And not to mention the multiple acquisition steps that wrecked havoc on Cartoon Network's modern lineup.

I think 2003 was when I first took note of cartoons getting significantly better than in my actually childhood, specifically with the new TMNT show at the time. Now, these last few years, I've just been chain-watching amazing cartoons and constantly thinking about how lucky the current generation of kids are to have these things. I'd be jealous if I didn't also enjoy them so much as an adult.

I think, maybe, while the Dans were partaking of the Nickelodeon cartoons and TMNT, I was trying to walk home from school in time to catch Toonami in the hopes of catching Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Ruroni Kenshin, or something (maybe even DBZ, who knows). It's kinda fun looking back at what different people were engaging with back then. Also, it's kinda weird to me (probly because I grew up in a household that demolished every release of the SW original trilogy by rewatching the VHS that much, parents included) that you could be "too old" for something. I never actively stopped watching anime, I just had shit to do in that time block, or school overlapped with it, or something. I'm just now catching up on 2010 anime. 18:30 OG Sailor Moon was weird to me as a kid, probly still would be. That being said, it's highly likely Sailor Uranus was my first crush in any capacity. 19:56 Hakusho also never stuck with me, it felt like a bunch of guys swearing for no real reason... the literal finger gun and one dude I can't remember the name of were alright, tho. 20:54 Friendly reminder that Pokemon is a JRPG, really. It was my first, and almost only, too. 24:37 Hmm.... that's a tough one, mostly due to a shitty memory... I distinctly remember buying S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl on sale (and, given how much I love the series... I kinda feel bad about getting it for 2$), but I miiight have grabbed some bargain bin OG Xbox games before then. 29:41 I must've been a few years behind Emmons. I got no end of shit for playing Pokemon... in elementary school. Pokemon also did the anime thing for me, after Gold/Silver the next one I played was the remakes. Nothing in between except a brief foray into... Emerald, I think. 34:23 I apparently missed that window. Supposedly, my parents would stay up playing Tetris till all hours, but by the time I existed, I was being scolded for staying up too late playing NES games. 37:42 it's weird and I love it. The slight age offset is cool and sounds really weird to think about. It also quadruples the length of my comments, minimum. 39:36 Dan Jones is the kind of DM I'd love to play under/with. 52:11 I just got all-night CaH flashbacks. I'd have a bottle of rum, I think the rest had some kind of soda... but that realisation if "oh, hey... the sun's back up..."

That was a major upset for Dan! I really thought Dan had Dan on the ropes, but Dan was too wily!

It is interesting hearing the Dans talk about the animations they grew up with. Age-wise i am closest to Dan Floyd(by a couple months) and I have similar views of animation and shows that he has. Its funny to think we were likely watching the same shows on TV, as well as playing the same games, at the same time.

Nice things about Dan Jones? I greatly enjoy his DMing. The world he's built and the lighter tone is super fun, especially when it hard pivots into eldritch horror, like with the flesh tunnels in the Underdark. :D
