You can rearrange all items in a menu with press and hold. First home screen is like favorites you can add or remove any items in it. Haptic feedback is not touch and hold, its force sensitive. You need to click on it like a button. But Tesla don't have that so you're not used to it.

The first thing to know is that the “main menu” on the left of the upper screen is not the main menu. It is a set of user definable shortcuts for the icons in the top menu to its right (the big icons). Similarly, the buttons at the top of the lower display are user defined shortcuts, so the car’s owner would know what the symbols mean (having set them up). Thirdly, I’m pretty sure that audio settings are always accessible by dragging down from the top of the upper screen: though it’s true that this has to be discovered or read in the manual. It’s worth noting that there is built in help within the MMI. Whilst it may not be as intuitive as in the Tesla(?), it is one of the better interfaces from a mainstream car manufacturer. (Though I prefer the version in the A3 with physical climate controls in place of the lower touch screen).

I see a lot of hate comments on mmi. You people don't realise how audi was ahead of the competition in the infotainment. They're the first one that iplementted touchpad handwriting, online connectivity wth 3g and later 4g. Google earth with live traffic, street view and online search. All that powered with nVidia graphics. In both screens. Yes the first descrete GPU accelerated digital dash ever. All that in 2010 b4 model s existed. P.s. Elon musk actually had Q7 as his personal suv b4 they made model x.

@Tabea Klettner in my opinion the reason, why they will loose against tesla and other companys without automotive background and more IT-Skills. Instead of implementing, well functioning technic for 300 Dollars they develop theyr own proprietary things for much higher prices. There is no reason, why not to implement the function of a simple 300$ PDA into a phaeton in 2004. The touchscreens in cars were terrible long after iphone was developed. Cars are not well engineered, mechanical masterpieces anymore. They are more abou Information and Cloud based services. The shell itself will be not so important anymore. But thats only my opinion, i do not own a car anymore since 5 years...

You don't think how ridiculous the Model 3 iPAd looks like? it looks cheap very cheap for a 50k+ car. If you look at these integrated screens.. they look good. Just the functionality might need some fine tuning (menus etc.) Also I would like to see speedometer and some other info in front of me. Preferably right in front of me. Proprietary stuff becomes cheap when you use the same components in all your cars. VAG sold 10.8M vehicles in 2017 for example. That is 10M screens you order per year which will put the costs down. With proprietary you will also differentiate from the market.

I have an I-Pace and have never read a vehicle handbook in so much detail ever in my life. I have run 2 TMS's the last 5 years and agree with Bjørn there is an ease of use with the Tesla UI that has made my first weeks with the I-Pace really frustrating. If you have owned a Jag/Land Rover/Range Rover, then I am assuming you will be used to the way the infotaniment system has been implemented, same for Audi as well as BMW. The I-Pace is similar to the Audi, but has a gazillion options activated using the scroll wheel on the steering wheel, with up to 3 levels of menu options you have to back out of. This probably looks to be a better solution (assuming there is no similar option in the Audi), as the options are in the middle of the instrument cluster, so if you so do make changes while driving your head is pointed forward and not down and to the side looking at the main info screen. Looks like the Audi navigation supports Voice search which the I-Pace doesn't . This is something I really do miss. Can of course use Android Auto, and then don't need to download 25Gig of map updates like I did last week to update the I-Pace nav. One final comment when the main screen is in Media mode and you select Options you get a screen with 2 Options one for the active selection in this case Media and another All Settings.

I would like my Model 3 navigation to tell me the weather without going into the browser. Other than that the Tesla UI looks much nicer , with one big map screen, and apple like GUI that is way more colorful, functional and easier to use. Audi looks like an old phone. And the hvac/seats takes up too much space at the bottom. In my 3 I tap the fan to show the heated seats or hvac, or toggle out of view of the map. Or drag the climate bar right or left without tapping multiple times, without taking up that much space in the Audi. They're left with the same puny map screen like before. Audi should have made it one screen, ditch the old style UI and air vents. Make it more modern and simple like Tesla.

I think people generally don't like touchscreen in car. Me to. But chinas market demands it and touchscreen can operate any function built in or later added to the car. With physical buttons you are stuck with those. You can't easily change what theily are doing.

Martin Košumberský Audi has not have a button mess for over ten years. Look at 2005 A6 and compare it to most other cars with similar functionality. The MMI system was created to get rid of buttons, and replace them with menus. Earlier versions used rotary knob.

Why when we have bezel-less smartfones in cars we have that ugly screens like tablets from 2010....

Yikes, if an infotainment system is not intuitive to someone as technical as yourself, it needs to be scrapped and redesign. Fail Audi.

When everything else works, the sound settings are the most important feature in the car by far :)

Complicated menus.. but nothing someone who would be interested in this car, couldn't understand in a week or so to get 90% of it down. Still.. as well built as the car probably is.. I couldn't justify buying one over a Tesla with those specs... and VW group just has me pretty disgusted with them... I turned in my S4 (the second one I owned, I liked Audi performance.. hated their service) for my Model S. They're going to have to do a lot better than this to get me out of a Tesla and back into an Audi. A LOT better. The GT they showed is good looking.. but still.. it's a Audi'd up Taycan.. while nice, it's no real improvement over a 7 year old model S design (in many important ways it's not even as good). Sorry Germans, but you're not winning this battle.. you're not even really competing yet considering most of these offerings aren't even open for another year or two or more. It's sad to see how the mighty have been bested by a little upstart nobody. Their whole industry has shifted under their feet, and it's like they didn't even notice till nearly 5 years later. Or didn't want to notice maybe.. the ostrich with the head in the sand game.. maybe the big bad Tesla problem will just implode and go away... bad call fellas.. bad call.

No surprise the UI is a mess. Design by committee never works for such things. Oh man as a UI designer this is cringe worthy. Why on earth did they split the information over two screens? It's like putting sticks in your wheels while driving.

@@herrfleischgewehr no difference between phone apps and cars. Dashboard ui is just an app to control the car, same principles apply. it's really hard to do right and i think VW Grpup does not give it enough resources.

Audi still can’t make a proper user interface, so sad to see that.

Bring back knobs, buttons, analog gauges and paper maps. This touchscreen stuff is going to go out of style. Old is new. Look at the stone wash jeans you find on hot college girls all tight and full of holes.
