*note- sorry the music levels can get overpowering vs my voice in the first few segments! The audio varies in the game quite a bit so I'm working on the balance.

Thanks for the series, I'm about a third of the way through the first video. This is my all time favorite video game and I am excited for you to play through it. I do hope you enjoyed the game. I first played this when it came out in the 90s. A fun bit of trivia, this is the first game to introduce the new game + mechanic.

Biggs, Wedge, and Piette. Square Enix loves to insert Biggs and Wedge into many of its games..Piette not so much, but those three names are all from Star Wars.

"There can't be too much to do right away, I'll just go to the fair." You'd think, but this is the one JRPG that gives you a ton of stuff to check out and space to explore right at the beginning if you want. Including the fair itself and all its minigames.

I do not know you Freezhie, but I have to say one thing! Enjoy Chrono Trigger! I first played it back in 2005 when I bought a yellowed out SNES with just this cartridge. As someone that has been playing since the N64 came out, Chrono Trigger is still one of, if not the, best JRPG. There is a reason for why it is such a beloved game. Immerse yourself, enjoy the ride, discover everything there is to do. And above all else, remember this is a SNES game. Which means that sometimes there are extra things to do that you may not discover in the main story but add a lot of character development to each of your party members. And once you finish, check out the Chrono Trigger musical here in KZfaq. ONLY AFTER YOU FINISH. Don't spoil yourself. The story is worth going through.

Genuinely when I think about CT all I can ever think is that it's a perfect game. It really does hold up it's so impressive. I do also enjoy a time travel story line and I love the choices in this effecting later years. truly they were able to achieve so much!!

@freezhie that's good though. Because the game uses time travel. The present day Castle has the same chests If you open the chests in the past, they won't be available in the future. So you'll want to open then in the modern castle firat and then in the past castle.

This game looks VERY strange to me with the new UI, and you can see the edges of tiles with the HD art in a way you never could before, but this should still be an amazing journey! It's still a Top 10 game for me, and that's something I take seriously: I've been keeping a ranked Top 100 list for the past 15 years now and at this point, it's hard for many games I really like to even get on the list!

I looked at some other playthroughs on OG and DS and yeah this looks super jarring from steam LOL NICE. the standards have been kept high with this one!! I used to think nostalgia was a huge factor in the love for this game but it's feeling pretty timeless so far 😊

Enjoying this so far! Maybe I'm just biased because I'm accustomed to the SNES version, but the dialogue sounds SO stilted and awkward in this new translation.

@@freezhie Having watched more, the new translation started to seem less weird, so maybe it's just that the exact verbiage from the first hour of the SNES version of this game is so carved into the grooves of my brain. ^_^

1:46:54 This was the first RPG I ever played (and played incessantly) back in the mid-90s, and I couldn't agree with your take on the battle system more! I got very VERY accustomed to battles occurring on the same exact screen you are moving your character around on... no stupid ass random battles with enemies you can't plainly see (and avoid if desired). You're in and out of battle without having to wait for a transition, and on top of it all, where the enemies are on the screen can change the strategy you use to win. I've been told a million times that I don't know what I'm missing, but the random battles in random places that happen seemingly "just because" is a deal breaker for me... so Pokemon and most Final Fantasy titles are completely off the table and agonizing to play for me. 😮💨🤷

OHH wow the lack of transitions never even occurred to me. That explains even further why the pacing feels so nice! I'm kinda glad i didn't play this sooner bc I think some turn based games that followed may have been ruined for me LOL
