I do this with my dog too. It's unfair that they know your scent and can smell you out. Now even with that advantage my dog knows what room I'm in and he will go into the room looking at every spot I've hid in before before eventually finding me. The ONLY way to win is to keep moving around different spots

dogs are amazing...i have to jump from an elevated platform to elevated platform so on a so forth, in order to throw my dogs off my scent. once they are lost in the pursuit I start whistling when they are long gone just to bring them back. they eventually figure it out and it becomes a moment of joy for all involved. I love this game....and so do they.

I used to play this with my dog. I have to wonder if dogs turn off their nose and ears so they can play hide and seek fairly with us. We all know that they can use their sense of smell and hearing to track, so the only way they are "confused" is if they are deliberately ignoring the unfair advantage of their nose and ears and only using their eyes, like we do. Notice that they don't put their nose to the ground or perk up their ears like they do when outdoors "hunting" birds, cats, other dogs, etc. I think they know we are handicapped, feel sorry for us, and give us a break.

I used to play hide & seek with my Doberman and Boston Terrier all the time, but kept cheese or a hot dog on me as a reward / scent. They were still terrible at it. 😂😂. Made me laugh so hard. I’d be behind the bed and they’d jump up on it, looking all around and never see me. They’d come in and out of the rooms. The Boston was better at it due to her short snout.
