I stumbled upon an open piano at my hotel and couldn't resist indulging in my favorite pastime. Inspired by a local artist's recommendation, I played what I felt was the most fitting music for the city. This is a first-take performance.

"La Paloma," or "The Dove" in English, is a beloved Spanish song that has been reimagined and performed in countless cultures, styles, and arrangements over the past 140 years. Composed by the Basque Spanish musician Sebastián Iradier (later Yradier) around 1860 following a trip to Cuba, the song was officially registered as a "Canción Americana con acompañamiento de Piano" in Madrid in 1879.[1] Tragically, Iradier died in obscurity just a few years later, unaware of the immense popularity his creation would achieve.
