37:40 You've got low Strength and dual wielding further lowers your chance to hit. In your inventory you can see "to hit" modifiers at the bottom, these being -4 for main hand and -10 for off hand. It's a dnd like system where the chance to hit is determined by a d20 roll + your modifier, so having it even at -1 is pretty terrible.

Part of the reason for there being so many aliens in this game is so they could reuse the same "alien dialogue" instead of recording so much voice acting for all of the possible conversations in this game. Instead of recording 5000 different lines, they just had to say "Yamma yamma koonya!" and play that with subtitles! It's not the best, but it feels better than just having no sound at all for the unrecorded lines. :D

Remember that pausing the game and queueing up commands for each party member is a huge advantage you have while playing this game! You're essentially playing a turn based game that plays out in real-time for the purpose of looking cooler and trying to attract players who don't like turn-based games by slightly disguising it. You can queue up actions for each character in this type of "real time with pause" RPG game, or if you've never played a game with this type of combat system, you can even think of it like The Sims. You can pause, tell each character a bunch of commands like "attack, heal, attack, strong attack, heal, attack, attack" and then once you've given your whole team their orders, unpause and watch it play out. Everything works like a turn based game, and you can even see the log of dice rolls in one of the menus (useful for checking why you keep missing!), except you're seeing the turns take place in real time with you and your opponents alternating making one move per round every 6 seconds.

I love this game! My favourite sort of build is a Scout, with most stats except charisma raised with focus on strength and dexterity. This is a combat heavy build, to make sure that when you are a Jedi later, you have a high chance to hit your target and deal serious damage, whilst having a high chance to dodge. I tend to go dark side with this, as you tend to not need charisma as much if you're being an asshole. I also do the save level thing when on Taris, where I don't level up my character past level 2 until I change class at the Enclave, which grants me more force points.

OH MAN, I've been waiting for this! This game and it's sequel were my childhood! I remember running to my tiny little 10 inch wide CRT tv in my bedroom after school, gunning to be the first one on the X-Box so that I could play this! This game is the reason why I nearly repeated the fifth grade. I played this game and the sequel over and over again so many countless times even late into high school that I can't even begin to count and have memorized practically everything! Yeah, in this era Sith doesn't exclusively refer to dark side Force adepts. Anyone part of Darth Malak's army is considered 'sith' but most are not force sensitive but rather simple soldiers. Word of advice: If you're serious about using dual blades you need to take the two weapon fighting feat, otherwise you're gonna get hit with a huge penalty. Yeah, Taris is an extremely racist place and human-centric. It's been around long before the Sith occupation.

@@cleverman383 Wow 8 times is a lot, makes me wonder what would be in your top 3 then

This is in my top 2 favorite games of all time but it's such an old game that I wonder how people will feel about it today. It will still be enjoyable but I'm really excited about the remake because it can basically be the same game with 10 times the complexity.

pretty sure i remember just using the healing items straight from the menu, without taking a "turn" to do it. so much easier and faster. or maybe it's been patched out of the game or something. it's been around 15 years since i played last time.

This is quite possibly the most legendary and epic game BioWare has ever developed.

It’s basically Star Wars dungeons and dragons but in the old Republic setting excuse me,”the knights of the old Republic” setting

I really like the swordplay mixed in with blasters in a sci-fi setting; it's very Flash Gordon.

The sword/lightsabre play are really good considering how old it us, and the fact it isnt an action game.

Yup! Star Wars was directly inspired by Flash Gordon It was the biggest influence on the franchise, along with samurai epic films

you made the right call with the xbox version. the pc version is very very broken. to be clear, it wasnt a bad port, back in its day. it was fantastic when i played it on windows vista, but compatibility hasnt held up, and even with the modern steam version its very difficult and complicated to get it running ok on modern systems. impossible altogether (as far as i can tell) on a modern AMD system. I did manage to get it working ok on my media center computer with its older nvidia card.

The play/combat/turn-based dynamics were so unfamiliar to me (I've never played a real RPG) I could barely get anywhere in the game. I was thinking this would be similar to The Old Republic MMO, which I've been playing for years. But this was something else. That's why I'm watching someone else play, and explain it. Thanks so much!

It's actually quite easy if you understand D&D 3.5E rules, learn all the mechanics, choose the right gear, think tactically when doing level ups, and properly learn how to pause your game and queue up attacks. Which... now that I say it, I suppose you could consider to be very hard, hahaha. That's like saying "Dark Souls is easy, you just have to memorize all the movesets, timings, etc" :D
