Playing the Tsugaru Shamisen at Tokyo's Mitama Matsuri and exploring the festival and Yasukuni shrine afterwards! This was an opportunity that people can only cash in on once every 10 years so I am glad I was able to share it with you!

WOW, Norm. That looked like an amazing day for you. Please post a video of your entire performance!!! I also enjoyed seeing all the people that love watching your vlogs as much as I do get the chance to tell you in person. Maybe I'll get the same opportunity in early Aug. However, I'm completely aware of the slim-to-none chances in such a crowded city. *fingers crossed though*

I wish I had known about that pond when I visited this shrine! My favorite matsuri food from when I lived in Aomori-ken would have to be this one stall that was only at a handful of the festivals, but I discovered at my first visit of Takko-shi Beef and Garlic Festival. He made taiyaki, but instead of filling it with the standard bean paste or custard, he filled it with an egg and bacon with a little bit of mayo. SO. GOOD.

how awesome that you were invited to place at a place that is special to you during one of your most enjoyable matsuri! (that is what diligent practice is all about.) you look very nice in a kimono with hakama. seeing the grounds around the shrine and the yatai, as well as people dressed in kimono was very natsukashii for me . (kimono being more commonplace to see almost any time in Kyoto than in most areas of Tokyo.) congratulations on your performance and solo. watashitachi to kore wo kyouyuu shiteitadaki arigatou gozaimasu!

2:40--Nice Kurosawa moment with the sun coming through the leaves (Rashomon!). Looking pretty fine in your kimono and hakama. Not every tall, bearded Canadian can pull that off, you know! Congratulations on being asked to do a solo performance. I think it reflects how far you've advanced in your shamisen journey. Probably a dumb question, but how is the tuning on a shamisen affected by heat and humidity? I'm guessing you have to re-tune during long performances, given that the natural materials that the instrument is made of will react to changes in environment. I may never get to Japan, but I'm definitely enjoying experiencing these wonderful moments vicariously through you and I will always feel fortunate that I discovered your channel. Keep up the good work!

We'll keep a good thought! That's the last thing you need. I assume that the case has some kind of humidity control, like for a violin?三味線! がんばってね!(Hope this is right. Google translate isn't that wonderful for Japanese!)
