As a Ryu main, people hate losing to Ryu cos he's so pure, for want of a better word? I think he's mid tier technically (still strong imo) but he's so honest, when you lose, you got outplayed, you can lose to a Ken or a JP and rationalise it in your head but with Ryu, you simple got stomped.
